From Rashmika Mandanna to Yash - Sandalwood stars who have faced IT raids in the past

While IT raids happening at the homes of big businessmen and politicians is a common occurrence, celebrities and sportsmen are not anexception either. Considering that they too make a lot of money through their professions, it is natural that the IT department will have an eye on them to check if they are paying all the taxes that they owe to the government. The past few days saw the Tamil actor Vijay being interrogated by IT officials for the money he made during his last film ‘Bigil’and it created a huge buzz over the internet. Before that, in January 2020, Kannada actress Rashmika Mandanna’s home was raided by IT officials as well. In the light of these raids, we are looking at five Kannada actors who have faced similar raids in the past.

South India’s most loved actress, Rashmika Mandanna, who is busy with many movies in various industries recently faced an Income Tax raid in January 2020. The raid by IT officials took place at her residence in Virajpet. Rashmika, who is a Sandalwood and Tollywood multi-faceted actress, has come up with a series of hit movies till now owing to which, Rashmika Mandanna’s revenue has increased over the last 3-4 years. Probably that is what called for the surprise raid on the actress.

The house of Shivarajkumar was also raided by the IT department in Bangalore in January 2019. The trial lasted for four consecutive days. Shivarajkumar's wife Geetha was also questioned by the authorities as she had contested the elections then. This was the first time Shivarajkumar faced a raid by the IT department. The actor's family was in immense shock because of the raid. Shivarajkumar holds a lot of businesses and properties, which could have provoked this raid.

After the release of ‘KGF: Chapter 1’, Yash attracted the attention of many people including IT officials. He became a huge national star after the release of ‘KGF: Chapter 1’. Shortly after the film was released, there was an IT raid on Yash's house in January 2019. The raid took place at the house in Bangalore. Yash obeyed the law by clarifying all the accounts.

Kiccha Sudeep’s residence in JP Nagar, Bangalore was raided by IT officials in January 2019, while he was busy shooting in Mysore. Sudeep returned immediately, halting the shoot, as his mother was alone in the house in Bangalore. Sudeep spoke to the media after the raid and said, “There are no personal issues involved in this raid. There are some big-budget films being produced in Kannada including ‘The Villain’, ‘Natasaarvabhowma’ and ‘KGF’. The attack may have been related to this. It is our duty to cooperate with the authorities.”

Puneeth Rajkumar acted in a big-budget movie ‘Natasaarvabhowma’ last year, which did not go unnoticed by IT official. Even this raid took place in January 2019. Responding to the media, Puneeth said, “As a responsible citizen, I have supported the work of IT officers. Nothing bothers us. The raid was on our accounts. We have given all the information, and they are investigating. We cooperated with what they asked for. Our home, office and farmhouse were attacked in the past.”
