Actor Ramya has received widespread support after filing a police complaint against online abuse and threats. The harassment followed her public statement seeking justice for Renukaswamy; a murder case in which actor Darshan Thoogudeepa is an accused. The abuse included rape threats and character assassination, prompting her to take legal action. The move triggered a wave of solidarity. The hashtag #WeStandWithRamya began trending across social media, with support pouring in from netizens, industry peers, women’s rights groups, and politicians. Many condemned the targeted misogyny and called for stricter measures against digital abuse. Actor Shivarajkumar and his wife issued a joint statement. It read,“It is not right to attack any woman. A woman should be respected as a human being first. Your stand is right, Ramya—we stand by you.” Vinay Rajkumar added, “A world that denies women equality should be crushed before it takes shape.” FIRE (Film Industry for Rights & Equality) also extended support and submitted a letter to the home minister urging immediate action. The Karnataka State Commission for Women has taken cognisance of Ramya’s complaint and is reportedly in touch with her.
Her action has reignited discussions around gendered hate and the cost of speaking up as a woman in public life.

If a public figure like me is being targeted in this manner, I shudder to think what ordinary women are going through online every day. This fight is not just mine, it’s for every woman who has faced such vile harassment and been forced into silence. Darshan must take responsibility and upload a video urging his fans not to behave in this cheap way. Using filthy language against women can’t be tolerated
