Rajesh Madhavan’s debut directorial ‘Pennum Porattum’ hit the big screens on February 13. As the film completes three days in the theatres, the performance remains steady; however, there is no significant spike on the weekend.
On Sunday, February 15, ‘Pennum Porattum’ collected Rs 11 lakh, according to the tracking site Sacnilk. This is slightly lower than its previous day collection. On Saturday, the film minted Rs 12 lakh. The opening day collection was Rs 11 lakh. By the end of the third day, the India net collection stands at Rs 34 lakh, and the worldwide collection at Rs 39 lakh. The upcoming days are crucial for the film, as the film might require more traction to sustain in the theatres.
What you should know about ‘Pennum Porattum’
Rajesh Madhavan, best known for his roles in ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’, ‘Android Kunjappan Version 5.25’, ‘Nna Thaan Case Kodu’, ‘Archana 31 Not Out’, and ‘Sureshanteyum Sumalathayudeyum Hrudayahariyaya Pranayakadha’, is making his directorial debut with ‘Pennum Porattum’.
Set in Pattada, a village in Palakkad, the film revolves around a young woman and a pet dog who turn victims of public rage, following unsubstantiated rumours. The film village is thrown into chaos by rumours, moral panic, and misplaced righteousness. Actors Raina Radhakrishnan, Rajesh Madhavan, Subhash Chandran, Shanooj Alanallur, and Satheesh Pulikka, appear in lead roles in the film.
Scripted by debutant Ravishankar, the film is a social satire. Over 100 actors, mostly newcomers, are seen in the film.
On the technical front, the film features a talented crew: cinematographer Sabin Uralikandy, editor Chaman Chakko, and composer Dawn Vincent.
‘Pennum Porattum’ was screened at the 56th International Film Festival of India and the 30th International Film Festival of Kerala in 2025, where it received rave reviews.
Meanwhile, after its theatrical release, ‘Pennum Porattum’ will stream on Netflix.
