'Charlie' turns 5: Unforgettable moments from the Dulquer Salmaan starrer

‘Charlie’ is a celebration. Celebration of life, its unpredictability, and the beauty it offers. Charlie played by Dulquer Salmaan is a person, who is full of life. He is a free-spirited man, brought up by an extraordinary father and Charlie brings joy to the lives of people he meets. Directed by Martin Prakkat the film is celebrating five years of its release today. Dulquer Salmaan played the titular and Parvathy Thiruvothu played his lady love, Tessa.

‘Charlie’ is a film worth revisiting, especially in today’s times, when we are living in midst of the pandemic. The film is packed with positivity and the hope it offers will diffuse in your lives too. As the film turns five today, let’s take a look at the most memorable moments in ‘Charlie’.

Meeting Mr. D'souza

D’souza works at night, and by work we meant robbery! The exceptional talent Soubin Shahir played Sunikuttan aka D’souza, a small-time thief, who robs for his day-to-day needs. D’souza enters Charlie’s apartment to rob and gets caught and later mesmerized by Charlie. Charlie meeting D’souza and developing a friendship with him is undeniably a memorable moment in the film. Also, D’souza is such an innocent thief that he cannot identify a place in the daylight!

Saving Kani from suicide on the New Year eve

Charlie and D’souza met each other while the latter was robbing the former’s apartment, but the duo formed a friendship and indeed saved a woman from killing herself. The scene of Charlie saving Kani (Aparna Gopinath) from suicide, is as gripping as the graphic novel Tessa (Parvathy Thiruvothu) finds in Charlie’s room. The scene where Charlie and Kani fighting on the beach on the New Year eve is not only memorable but also a life lesson.

Charlie celebrating Queen Mary’s birthday on the boat

As the makers describe, Charlie is like a breeze, that touches many lives. He brings cheerfulness and joy in their lives and Queen Mary is a woman, he helps. Late Kalpana stepped into the shoes of Queen Mary. The woman who has a daughter is forced into the flesh trade, by her husband. The whole world might judge her brutally, but not Charlie. Charlie celebrating Queen Mary’s birthday in the boat and later her jumping into the depths of the sea to end her miseries is not only a memorable scene in the movie but real life too. Actress Kalpana, who played Queen Mary, passed away a month, after the release of ‘Charlie’.

Reuniting Kunjappan and Thresia

Kunjappan (Nedumudi Venu) is an inmate in an old age home, which Charlie often visits. Kunjappan is in his late 60s, but is still a bachelor as he lost touch with his girlfriend during his teenage years. Charlie is destined to bring happiness to Kunjappan’s life too! Charlie reunites Kunjappan with his lady love Thresia, who happens to be a nun now. They might not be able to live a life together at this point in time, but they are happy finding each other. The scene where Kunjappan and Thresia are sitting together on a bench chatting is one of the priceless moments in the film.

Meeting Tessa at Thrissur Pooram

Charlie is a free-spirited enthusiastic young man, who is obsessed with living life in a unique way. And so meeting his soul mate and lady love Tessa (Parvathy Thiruvothu) should also be different. Charlie asks Tessa to meet him at the Thrissur Pooram. This particular scene of the two meeting each other is unanimously loved by most of the cinephiles and that definitely makes it an unforgettable moment!
