Friendship Day 2022: THESE Malayalam fictional characters will make you want to have your own squad!

Life is too short to be self-centered. We all need Phoebe, Joey, Monica, Chandler, Rachel, or Ross in our lives. After all, is life even complete without having a 12 am friend to who you could weep about your narcissistic ex or horrible boss? Definitely not! Today is that one day when you acknowledge the unconditional love and support your amigos give you, and celebrate them. On this friendship day, let’s take a look at some fictional friends from the Malayalam cinema, and we bet that you would be able to find them in your gang!

Suku, Pious, Murali - Classmates

Lal Jose’s directorial ‘Classmates’ is one of the best campus movies ever made in Malayalam. The film revolves around a bunch of students, their friendships, college life, and romantic relationships. Suku (Prithviraj Sukumaran), Pious (Indrajith Sukumaran), Murali (Narain) are best friends. Suku and Pious are roomies and Murali is the son of the college principal. As in any other batch, Suku is this bright student, who is also into politics, while Pious is this young flirt with a big heart (pun intended), and Murali, on the other hand, is a perfect student, on whom all of them could depend on! So who is the Pious of your group?

Aravindan, Chandu, Joy - Friends

The 1999 release ‘Friends’ tells the story of three young men, who were friends since their childhood days, and now are in their early 30s. Aravindan (Jayaram) is a rich, short-tempered man, who has the hots for any other woman he meets, while Chandu (Mukesh) an orphan, who is rather is a good person is a glue that holds the group, and Chackachamparambil Joy (Sreenivasan) is someone, whose tomfoolery is beyond description, and he is also very skeptical about everything. The trio’s friendship does take all those highs and lows any other relationship would go through.

Mahadevan, Govindan Kutty, Appukuttan, Thomas Kutty - In Harihar Nagar

One of the best comedy entertainers made in Malayalam cinema, ‘In Harihar Nagar’ tells the story of four young men - Mahadevan (Mukesh), Govindan Kutty (Sidhique), Appukuttan (Jagadish), Thomas Kutty (Ashokan), who live in a housing colony named Harihar Nagar. From trying to woo the girls next door to doing the stupidest things ever, they are a team! The film is a must-watch if you are new to Malayalam movies or even not, and you get to decide who the Appukkuttan in your squad is.

Kunjoonju, Deepu, Ashtamoorthy - Swapnakoodu

Kamal’s film ‘Swapnakoodu’ features three friends Kunjoonju aka Alex Chandy (Prithviraj Sukumaran), Deepu (Kunchacko Boban), and Ashtamoorthy (Jayasurya), who are studying Hotel Management in Pondicherry. Kunjoonju is someone who makes a pass at every other woman he meets, Deepu is quite decent, and Ashtamoorthy is the paavam in the group. They rent a house in Pondicherry and their chemistry is immensely entertaining.

Vijayan, Dasan - Nadodikkattu

Well, if you are a Malayali movie buff, and was wondering, why we missed Vijayan and Dasan on a friendship day, we haven’t. We were just keeping the best for the last! Vijayan (Sreenivasan) and Ramdas aka Dasan (Mohanlal) could undoubtedly say that “You're the Monica to my Rachel.” Vijayan and Dasan are not the ideal winsome friends, they have their own share of fights, pull each other's leg, doesn’t miss an opportunity to trash talk all the time, but there is definitely a friendship between them. Their friendship is more like the Tom and Jerry bond, and is inseparable.
