From ‘Devasuram’ to ‘Rappakal’: Movies that were shot in Varikkasseri Mana

Varikkasseri Mana is not at all an alien term for a Keralite. The audience has experienced their favourite stars living as characters in that Mana. The Mana has witnessed the growth and change of the Malayalam film industry. Varikkasseri Mana is one of the favourite shooting locations for filmmakers. Varikkasseri Mana is a Namboothiri 'Illam,' and one of the oldest of its type. The Mana is situated in Palakkad. The Mana is believed to be built in the early 20th century. Here is a list of movies that were shot in Varikkasseri Mana.

2/5

‘Devasuram’

The Mohanlal starrer movie is directed by IV Sasi. The film is one of the best movies in Mollywood. Mohanlal's character Mangalassery Neelakandan and the Varikkasseri Mana is inseparable from the scenes. The epic scene in which Bhanumathi (played by Revathy) aggressively throwing her chilanka in the veranda of the Mana and cursing Neelakandan, hasn't vanished from any movie lovers eyes. The whole prestige and heroism of Mangalassery Neelakandan are linked with the Mana. The rich interior of the Mana is beautifully framed in the film.

3/5

‘Aaraam Thampuran’

The movie has utilised the lion portion of the Mana in the movie. Kanimangalam Jagannadhan Thampuran's soul is connected with the Mana. Without such an auspicious location, the character would have been less effective. Ranjith has spent a good period of time in shaping the character and linking it with the Mana. The love between Unnimaya and Jagannadhan Thampuran has bloomed in the very same place. The whole story is linked with the location. The location is so important that, by the end of the film, even the audience starts to develop a relationship with the place.

4/5

‘Rappakal’

The Kamal movie starring Mammootty had the Mana as the main character in it. The film revolves around Saraswathiyamma, Krishnan and the 'Tharavadu.' The film has brought more portions of Varikkasseri Mana into the film. The movie is one of them which portrayed the Mana in its whole beauty. The film was also the debut project of Nayanthara. She played the role of a house help for the lead character Saraswathiyamma, which was played by Sharadha.

5/5

‘Sufi Paranja Katha’

The film was based on a novel of the same name. The lead character Karthy and the Mana are beautifully portrayed in the film. As the film discusses the caste system of olden days, the Mana plays an important role. Karthy, who is a Hindu woman, is very connected with the Mana. This movie had frames which were less seen in other movies. As the movie had many scenes in the Mana, the audience was able to see the beauty of the Mana.
