5 on-screen couples we wish lived a life together in the films

They say true love is synonymous to sacrifice and it is selfless. We all seek love one way or the other and hence true love has always been a fascination for human beings. And selfless love has always found a place in our hearts. And that might be the reason, most of us are fond of tragic romantic dramas. Be it in literature, plays, or movies, such stories have always touched their viewers. Mollywood too has produced touching tragic romantic dramas and most of us have wished for the reunion of those lovebirds. On Valentine’s Day, when most of us are celebrating love, let’s take a look at five on-screen romantic couples we wished reunited and lived happily ever after.

Clara and Jayakrishnan

A Malayali definitely cannot hold his/her tears, every time they watch Padmarajan’s cult classic ‘Thoovanathumbikal’. Clara (Sumalatha) and Jayakrishnan’s (Mohanlal) relationship is perhaps the most unique one we have ever seen on-screen. They were so madly in love with each other and Jayakrishnan even offered her to be his lady, but something stopped them from being together. Their relationship is undeniably made in heaven, and even today while revisiting the film, most of the cinephiles wish for a miracle to happen. We all wish for the moment when Jayakrishnan runs into Clara’s arms and they reunite.

Balan and Nandini

In ‘Pakshe’, Balan (Mohanlal) and Nandini (Shobana) were so in love with each other that they both even had a telepathic connection between them. Everything was in place and even the duos families were happy to see them together. But fate decides to play its twist. Balan is forced to marry Raji (Shanti Krishna) to save his family from debt. Nandini pursues her career in literature, both tend to have been living a normal life. And that’s when fate decides to give them hope again. Balan couldn’t stand the differences he has with Raji and goes on a vacation, where he unexpectedly meets his Nandini. The duo decides to spend the rest of their lives together but destiny prevents them from being together. Nandini’s tears and Balan’s helplessness still well up the eyes of the viewers and most of us wished to see them together.

Nandhita and Rajeevan

They say the world is round and most of our loved ones, whom we thought was lost, will cross paths with us. Nandhita (Samyuktha Varma) and Rajeevan (Biju Menon) from ‘Meghamalhar’ are childhood friends. They get parted at a very young age and reunite during their adulthood. Both of them are leading their respective married lives and that’s when they recognize each other. They decide to stay as strangers for the rest of their lives to prevent their respective partners from despair. But fate always has a plan which makes them meet again during their 60s. Kanyakumari was the place, where they decided to part ways, but the same place witnessed them meeting again and at last greeting each other like strangers.

Moideen and Kanchanamala

The 2015 film ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen’ tells the heart-wrenching story of a couple whom even death couldn't part. Kanchana (Parvathy Thiruvothu) and Moideen (Prithviraj Sukumaran) loved each other so much that they were ready to wait for their entire lives to get married. They never wanted their inter-faith marriage to initiate communal violence amongst the people they love. And finally in their late 40s when they got the chance to fly abroad and lead a happy life, Moideen gets killed in a boat tragedy. Although Kanchana didn’t let the death fail their love and decided to live as Moideen’s unmarried widow, most of the audience wished they lived a life together.

Mathan and Appu

Mathan (Tovino Thomas) and Appu (Aishwarya Lekshmi) from ‘Mayaanadhi’ loved each other. There’s no doubt about it. They wanted to be with each other for the rest of their lives but like any other millennial couple, they too wanted to achieve their goals. Mathan gets killed by the cops and Appu is unaware of it. And Appu firmly believes that nothing can destroy him and waits for him to return. When she says, “Mathanu poochayude janmamanu,” the audience too wants to believe that Mathan would return someday to his Appu.
