The much-discussed Pratap Pothen-Jayaram controversy that sprouted online with the former’s social networking post has now moved offline, with
Jayaram filing a complaint against Pothen in AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists). The actor, who has been maintaining a dignified silence about the allegations so far, seems to have decided to strike back through the ‘proper channel,’ with the complaint.
Confirming the news, AMMA’s president Innocent said, “Yes, we have received a written complaint from Jayaram regarding this issue. We will soon be calling both the actors for a discussion, aiming to settle it amicably, but the date has not been fixed yet.” It all started when Pratap Pothen approached Jayaram's son for his upcoming comeback directorial. Pratap Pothen offered Jayaram’s son Kalidas a role, which was rejected by the senior actor stating that his son was only interested to work with young directors. Irked by Jayaram’s choice of words, Pratap made the infamous post on his online page, which also received flak from the online community. Pratap Pothen had stated, “He became a star because his first role was a film with my brother’s company. He didn’t turn up for his funeral and didn’t have the decency to send a condolence message. He became a star through contacts, made a lot of money and thought he is Marlon Brando...(sic),” in the post. While Pothen skipped Jayaram’s name, the obvious hints did the talking. The post was also taken down, later. When asked about the allegations made in the complaint by Jayaram to AMMA, association secretary Idavela Babu said, “We are yet to open the complaint and cannot divulge any details as of now.”
Innocent chose to play down the issue saying, “Such minor tiffs can crop up between members of a family and our aim is not to aggravate the issue further by resorting to punishments, but to bring them to good terms. I am sure their amicable relationship will be re-instated.” Both Jayaram and Pratap Pothen remained unavailable for comment, until we went to press.
