Malavika Mohanan slams hypocrisy of male actors who pretend to be feminists in limelight: ‘I’ve seen them become the most misogynistic’
Actress Malavika Mohanan has openly criticised the performative feminism displayed by certain male actors in the industry. Malavika shared that some male actors who publicly support feminism often turn out to be misogynistic in private settings.
In an interview with Hauterrfly, Malavika highlighted the double standards she has observed behind the scenes. According to her, many male stars have merely adapted to the times, learning to say the “right” things in public while continuing to uphold outdated and misogynistic behaviour once the cameras are off.

“I don’t think this disparity has ever ended in the film industry. I also think that men have really gotten smart, and I’ve seen this in a lot of male actors. Suddenly, in the last 5–6 years, they know how to put on the mask of being woke,” Malavika shared.
She continued, “They know exactly what lines to say to make themselves come across as feminists, as very forward-thinking individuals, as people who treat women as equals. And I’ve seen them retreat from the public eye and become the most misogynistic individuals ever. It’s hypocrisy.”
The actress also took a bold step by confronting the long-standing objectification of women in South Indian cinema. She pointed out how some individuals in the industry are obsessed with female navels, adding that she was initially confused by the fixation when she first entered the field.
Malavika, who made her debut in the 2013 Malayalam film 'Pattam Pole' opposite Dulquer Salmaan, is now gearing up for the release of 'The Raja Saab' alongside Prabhas. She will soon be seen in 'Sardar 2' with Karthi.
