Veteran Malayalam actress KPAC Lalitha left for her heavenly abode on February 22. Today marks her birth anniversary. The thespian would have turned 74 this Friday (Feb 25). KPAC Lalitha who began her acting career at the age of 10 has been part of over 550 films in both Malayalam and Tamil, and she has played all possible roles on screen, and became a household name for the cinéastes.

Her real name is Maheshwari Amma
KPAC Lalitha's real name is Maheshwari Amma. She is named after Goddess Maheshwari from Chengannur. Since she was born after a long wait, her parents named her after the deity. It was her father who named her Lalitha. Later when she joined the drama troupe, KPAC, she added that as a prefix to her name.

KPAC Lalitha tied the knot with her husband Bharathan thrice!
KPAC Lalitha fell in love with legendary filmmaker Bharathan. The duo were head over heels in love, after working together. But did you know that the couple tied the knot thrice! Yes, that's right. KPAC Lalitha and Bharathan first tied the knot in May, 1978 at Murugan Kovil, Thiruvananthapuram. Later they registered the wedding officially. However, KPAC Lalitha always dreamt of her wedding at the Guruvayoor temple, hence the couple later tied the knot at the famous temple.

She has acted in a movie without appearing in a single scene
KPAC Lalitha is a versatile actress. From supporting characters to titular roles, KPAC Lalitha has played it all. But did you know she has acted in a movie, without actually 'acting' in it! Well, before you go bananas, let us tell you what you read is accurate. In 'Mathilukal', she was seen essaying the leading lady, however, she wasn't shown in even a single shot, instead the filmmaker used only her voice.

Adoor Gopalakrishnan casted her in ‘Mathilukal’ after auditioning 26 others
'Mathilukal' helmed by Adoor Goplakrishnan, is one of the most celebrated films of KPAC Lalitha. She essayed the leading lady opposite Mammootty, however, as she was not shown on the frame, her voice was crucial for the film. Speaking exclusively to ETimes, Adoor Gopalakrishnan recently revealed, "I auditioned 26 newbies, but none of them are very fit for the role. Narayani is a complex character and her loneliness, yearning for love, bland life, and the ability to seduce a man through her voice at the right time, should be conveyed through her voice. That was the moment I realized, no one in Malayalam cinema could breathe life into Narayani. Later I asked Lalitha to take up the role, because none of them were able to give voice for Narayani. Casting KPAC Lalitha wasn’t a decision made on a whim.”

She was a singer
KPAC Lalitha is a multifaceted talent. Apart from acting and dubbing, she has also sung songs for films. For the 1976 film 'Madhuram Thirumadhuram', she crooned the song 'Caashaaya Caashellam', along with P Jayachandran. She has also crooned songs for the films 'Good Morning', and 'Adavellaam Payatti'.
