Tamil Nadu State film awards: ‘Peranbu’ snub; Mammootty film gets fresh love from Kerala fans
The Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for the years 2016 to 2022 were announced recently. Many famous actors like Dhanush and Nayanthara received awards for their work. But fans were shocked and disappointed when they saw that 'Peranbu', the 2018 Mammootty film, did not get recognised. The movie had received amazing reviews when it released. Many people had praised Mammootty’s performance as one of his best. So when the awards skipped the film completely, fans felt very unhappy and confused.
One person Tweeted, “Dhanush in Vada Chennai was great no debate on it. But giving state award to him instead of this is some another level of clownery. One of the greatest act by an Indian actor ever! #Mammootty | #Peranbu.”
Another person wrote, “A Very Disturbing Scene from #Peranbu Exceptional Performances from #Mammootty & #Sadhana Not Considered for a Single Award In Tamil Nadu State Film Awards PURE INJUSTICE.”
Mammootty played the father character which is undoubtedly one of his best performances. The scene where Mammootty's character imitates his daughter's condition, is surely a study material on acting.
In the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards list, Peranbu did not get any mention except for the Best Cinematographer award given to Theni Easwar. But at the same time, the renewed attention on social media shows that people still care about the movie because of the stunning acting along with the theme of 'Peranbu'.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”

People call Mammootty’s performance more than just acting
Some fans shared scenes from the film and talked about how deep the emotions were. One comment said, “#Mammootty deserves more recognition—not awards, but respect. In #Peranbu, a father says, ‘Don’t be scared… I will change it for you.’ Buying sanitary napkins. Choosing care over shame. This wasn’t acting—it was humanity. No actor would dare this scene. Only he could do it.”Different opinions start coming in
Not everyone fully agreed with the anger. Some fans felt that the award going to Dhanush was also fair. One person wrote, “Why suddenly everyone is talking about a film released in 2018.” Another person said, “Yeah good point but I think it's better give to youngsters And mammoty has every award It's not big thing for him Dhanush deserves too.” Another comment said, “Let's agree to disagree.”Awards may skip it, but people keep the film alive
