Vinayan: 'Akashaganga 2' begins after Daisy gives birth to a baby girl
The beautiful yet scary woman in a white saree flowing across the courtyard of Vellinezhi Olappamanna Mana, and the "Puthu Mazhayayi Vannu Nee" song resonating in the background is the first thing that comes to a Keralite's mind when they hear about Yakshi (ghost). 'Aakashaganga', which released decades ago, continues to haunt many and now the horror film is all set to get a sequel with filmmaker Vinayan calling the shots.

'Akashaganga 2' will also feature Riyaz and Edavela Babu from the first part, while introducing Veena Nair as the lead along with Vishnu Vinay, Sreenath Bhasi and Ramya Krishnan in pivotal roles. As the film is set to hit the screens tomorrow, director Vinayan spilled the beans on the film in an exclusive chat with ETimes.
'Aakashaganga’ concluded with Daisy (Divya) and Unni (Riyaz) reuniting and the news that Daisy is pregnant. Revealing that the sequel starts with Daisy giving birth to a daughter Aarathi, Vinayan said, “ Aakashaganga 2' begins after Daisy gives birth to a baby girl. It marks the beginning of several disasters for the Maanikesseri family. Daisy dies following the delivery and even Rama Varma Thampuran (Innocent) passes away. Since Daisy conceived when she was possessed, the family faces a lot of problems and that’s where 'Aakashaganga 2’ continues.” Aarathi is now 20 year old and pursuing MBBS, who is also an active member and chairperson of the student union. “Sreenath Bhasi, Vishnu Vinay and Vishnu Govind play Aarathi’s classmates in the film and the plot is narrated through their viewpoint," Vinayan revealed. While 'Aakashaganga’ was packed with a lot of chills and thrills, filmmaker Vinayan promises a similar experience with 'Aakashaganga 2’.
Speaking about his decision to make a sequel to 1999 release 'Aakashaganga’, the filmmaker added, “We all love stories with fantasy elements, those Muthassi Kathas (Grandma's tales) still excite the audience and that’s what encouraged me to take on the project. 'Aakashaganga 2’ includes those ghost stories, Kovilakam, myth, and everything."
'Aakashaganga ’ featured an interesting cast of Riyaz, Sukumari, Rajan P Dev, Divya Unni, Spadikam George and Jagathy Sreekumar among others. Speaking about his team the director said, “The prequel had the best performers of that time and now I have the best contemporaries. We have one of the best performers of South, Ramya Krishnan, essaying an important character. Riyaz and Edavela Babu have also joined us for the sequel.”
With a whole lot of fresh scarier elements, 'Akashaganga 2' is set to hit the screens on November 1.
