#WhatIf: 'Harry Potter’ was remade in Mollywood with these fictional characters

Cinema is a realm of endless possibilities. From ‘Arrival of a train’ to giant fire-breathing dragons, cinema has indeed opened up a new universe before us where anything is possible. Today, with this write-up, we dig a bit more deeply into the new kinds of possibilities in cinema and into areas that are still unexplored and we are trying to view cinema as a whole without any kind of restrictions as to culture, gender, or even race. We are opening up a new universe by putting an end to the old age question of ‘Is it possible?’ and replacing it with ‘What if it is possible?’. So ready your tickets and let your imagination run wild as ETimes presents the first episode of the series, #Whatif!.

Before presenting you the first episode, we would like to introduce you to the character Simon, who will be your guide in walking you through different possibilities in the cinema and will be picking up film topics from all over and will present you with each possibility.

#Simon says: “it’s the 20th year anniversary of Harry Potter films, so let’s look into the possibility of #Whatif ‘Harry Potter’ was remade in Mollywood with a whole change in its setting and was played by fictional characters from Malayalam movies”

Possibility 1: Hogwarts higher secondary school, Nerimangalam P.O, Kottayam

#Simon says: “You can’t expect to have a Government school with such a posh name of ‘Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’, situated in one of the ordinary rural villages in Kerala. An immediate change in the school name to ’Hogwarts higher secondary school of magic, Nerimangalam P.O, Kottayam’ will be the first possible chance to happen if the setting of the whole ‘Harry Potter series is to be shifted to a rural village in Kerala. The selection process to this school will be hectic and won’t be through a sorting hat as you will need to pass the National level exam to get admission here and there will be two spin-off movies based on the plot regarding the struggle of two youngsters in getting admission in ‘Hogwarts higher secondary school of magic’.”

Possibility 2: Harry, Ron, Hermione a.k.a Vijay, Vinod, Lakshmi

#Simon says: “Remember those three little kids from India’s first 3d film My Dear Kuttichathan?. Now replace the main leading characters in ‘Harry Potter ’, Harry, Ron, and Hermione, with the three kids from ‘My Dear Kuttichathan'. Sounds perfect right?. Character Vijay, who is the leading guy among the gang has similar traits to Harry, and Vinod who is the scared one among the gang is easily relatable to Ron. Hermione is presented in the movies as a witty one with some personal issues as she was born in a muggle family, same with the case of Lakshmi, she also has personal issues as her father is a frequent drinker and is good for nothing guy. Vijay, Vinod, and Lakshmi could get an easy pass to the Hogwarts higher secondary school of magic.”

Possibility 3: Snape a.k.a Chacko Mash

#Simon says: “Perfect character replacement does exist when you think of replacing the character Snape in ‘Harry Potter’ with the character in ‘Spadikam’ film named ‘Chacko Master’. It’s an undeniable fact that both of them have a lot of character traits in common as to keeping an arrogant face the whole time but concealing their love and affection within. Snape, although seems like a bad personality, it was his love towards Harry Potter’s mother that made him treat Harry Potter harshly most of the time. And the same way, it was the love of Chacko Master towards his son ‘Aadu Thoma’, that made him take those harsh steps. You could say Chacko mash is a distant relative of Snape and if Chacko Mash is cast in Harry Potter you could hear this iconic dialogue while he teaches magic:” Ba..ba..ba..ba Alla….Expecto Patronum…”

Possibility 4: Voldemort a.k.a Digambaran

#Simon says: “Voldemort and the villain character, ‘Digambaran’ from the 2005 fantasy horror movie ‘Anandabhadram’ could be termed as perfect distant relatives as there is a lot in common between them. If ‘Digambaran’ gets a ticket to be cast in the Harry Potter series, the first thing he may use will be his soul-shifting power and would enter Harry Potter’s body, make him under his control and rest you can guess. It’s definitely a good thing for Harry and his team that the most devilish and powerful villain ‘Digambaran’ was not cast in the original Harry Potter series.”

Possibility 5: Fred and George Weasley a.k.a ‘Annan Thambi’

#Simon says: “The identical twin characters in the Harry Potter series, Fred and George Weasley could be replaced with none other than the two menace kids from the movie ‘Annan Thambi’. Even without having magical abilities, the kids Annan and Thambi create such a ruckus in the society, now imagine them going to Hogwarts to study magic, Poor Dumbledore and the whole management team of the school!"

Possibility 6: “Mad-Eye” Moody a.k.a Kulappulli Appan

#Simon says: “ Mad-Eye Moody in the Harry Potter series could be replaced with none other than ‘Kulappulli Appan’ from the film ‘Aaram Thampuran’. Not just because of the similar looks they have, it’s due to the mysterious nature both of the characters possess. If Kulappulli Appan was cast in the Harry Potter series, the first thing he would do will be to hire someone to blast off the whole Hogwarts school in the same way as he planned to do with the ‘Kanimangalam’ royal manor in ‘Aaram Thampuran’

Possibility 7: Molly Weasley a.k.a Bhasura

#Simon says: “Do you remember the character Bhasura in the movie ‘Manichitrathazhu’ played by K.P.A.C Laliltha?. The same level of affection and care with a sense of fear could be seen in Ron’s mother’s character Molly Weasley. Just imagine this situation where Bhasura a.k.a K.P.A.C Lalitha narrates the entire story of the origin of dementors to Harry Potter and his friends at night time... you felt chills down the spine right?. That’s why Bhasura could be the perfect replacement for Molly Weasley.”

#Simon says: “ there are a lot of possibilities still out there if Harry Potter is made in Mollywood, but the time allotted for this universe is coming to an end and there are still a lot of other universes that you need to visit in the future, let’s wind up this episode and meet you till next time on another universe of #Whatif”
