Birthday special: Five must watch movies of Subodh Bhave

Subodh Bhave, the biopic king of Marathi industry, is also known for his directorial abilities. Subodh made his directorial debut with ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’ which went on to become one of the blockbusters in Marathi cinema. The actor, who has never let down his directors and viewers with his performances, has many super hit films to his credit. On the occasion of his 43rd birthday today, we bring you a rundown of five movies of which the actor was a part of that you should simply not miss!

'Savita Damodar Paranjpe'

John Abraham's first Marathi production venture 'Savita Damodar Paranjpe' was based on popular Marathi play of the same name. Filmmaker Swapna Waghmare Joshi's film was the unfolding of the story of a woman seeking revenge from the man who ditched her. Subodh played the role of Sharad Abhyankar, the husband of Trupti Toradmal (Kusum) whose unexplained physical and mental trauma which affected the couple’s relationship. Subodh has done a comendable job through his act. As a psychological thriller, 'SDP' is worth a watch, primarily for the interesting story and performances.

'Katyar Kaljat Ghusli'

The Marathi star, Subodh Bhave chose popular Marathi play ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’ by Purshottam Darvhekar to make his directorial debut in the Marathi film industry. 'Katyar Kaljat Ghusali' depicts the story of the art of music suffering, which is uncannily narrated by a Dagger (Katyar). With a powerful subject and stellar star cast, Subodh hit the bull’s eye in his very first directorial venture. His character of ‘Sadadhiv’ in the movie was well appreciated by the audience and critics alike.

'Lokmanya – Ek Yug Purush'

‘Lokmanya – Ek Yug Purush‘ is a film that depicts the life of Bal Gangadhar Tilak in a different and powerful way. The story travels to the 1800s when Lokmanya Tilak (Subodh Bhave) was preparing to fight for ‘Swaraj’. Subodh Bhave deserves a round of applause for portraying Tilak’s greatness with such finesse. He has done full justice to his character, and at one point, you start believing in the man and his power for real. The effort that director Om Raut has put in is commendable.

'Hrudayantar'

Fashion designer Vikram Phadnis made his foray into direction with the Marathi film ‘Hrudyantar’ starring Subodh Bhave (Shekhar) and Mukta Barve (Samaira). The film revolves around a couple who tries to mend their broken 12-years of relationship at the same time fighting for their only daughter who is battling cancer. Subodh, as always has delivered a brilliant performance as a father who is a workaholic and amazed the audience with his performance. The film with its touching subject line was successful in striking the right chord with the audience.

'Sound of Heaven: The Story of Balgandharva'

Narayan Rajhans Bal Gandharv was a Marathi singer and stage actor. The female characters that he has played have been immortalised in the history. The film is about his struggles and journey from rags to riches. Subodh was highly praised for his noteworthy performance in the National Award-winning film.
