Jogwa (2009)
Directed by Rajiv Patil, this National award winning film is a love story of a jogta Tayappa and jogtin Suli, both of whom are forcefully made to serve a local deity. Featuring Mukta Barve and Upendra Limaye, the film shows how Suli and Tayappa find solace in each other and strive to break free from the shackles of discrimination, superstition, sexual oppression and servitude, to find true happiness.
Sairat (2016)
A heart-wrenching love story of two youngsters, Archi and Parshya, who belong to different societal and economic strata, Sairat created waves everywhere with it's brilliant story and execution. Starting off as a teenage romance, the layered screenplay goes on to explore the discrimination faced by the leads, played by Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar. The Nagraj Manjule film also got remade in Hindi as Dhadak .
Anandi Gopal (2019)
Directed by Sameer Vidwans, 'Anandi Gopal' is a biopic of one of the India's first female physicians Anandi Gopalrao Joshi. Featuring Bhagyashree Milinf and Lalit Prabhakar, the movie describes the harships Anandi goes through to become a doctor. Amidst the struggle, the movie also displays a beautiful story of Anandi and her husband Gopalra.
Nude (2018)
Ravi Jadhav's directorial, 'Nude' centres around Yamuna, played by Kalyanee Mulay, who chooses to leave her abusive husband and comes to Mumbai to stay with her aunt Chandrakka (Chhaya kadam). In order to earn a living and give a better life to her son, Yamuna becomes a nude model for art students. The film encircles the hardships Kalyanee goes through and how she overcomes them.
