Last year was all about Marathi films making a mark on the global scenario. This year will see a combination of love, adrenaline rush and thoughtful stories gracing the screens across the state. As Om Raut’s 'Lokmanya – Ek Yugpurush' opens the year for Marathi films, we give you a lowdown on some more films to watch out for in 2015.

Baji
Shreyas Talpade plays a superhero and Amruta Khanvilkar his love interest in the Nikhil Mahajan directed Baji. The film is estimated to have a high budget according to Suhrud Godbole, one of co-producers, who said, “We are using advanced special effects in the film so naturally the filmmaking cost is high.” Shreyas has worked very hard to fit the part of a superhero.

Marathi films to watch out for in 2015

Bioscope
Another delayed release, Bioscope was touted to be a film to look out for last year. With four big names in the field of cinema coming together to translate works of Marathi poets into cinema, the project has already garnered a lot of attention at various festivals. It is a compilation of four shorts directed by Ravi Jadhav, Gajjendra Ahirey, Girish Mohite and Viju Mane.

Marathi films to watch out for in 2015

Classmates
This multi-starrer project helmed by Aditya Sarpotdar is an adaptation of the 2006 Malayalam blockbuster 'Classmates'. The Malayalam film, which revolves around the murder of a college student, had collected approximately Rs 23 cr at the box office. The Marathi film will see actresses Sai Tamhankar and Sonalee sharing screen-space for the first time along with Ankush Chaudhary and Siddharth Chandekar.

Highway
National award winning director Umesh Kulkarni’s project will see actors Huma Qureshi and Tisca Chopra making their Marathi debut in this film which unravels on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Girish Kulkarni has written the story and also plays the lead role. The other stellar star cast of the film comprises Nana Patekar, Sonali Kulkarni and Dilip Prabhavalkar.

Zabardast 2
A sequel to the 2007 superhero movie Jabardast which was a commercial success, the movie will see actor-director Pushkar Jog playing a superhero. Sanjay Jadhav, director of Duniyadari, will be spearheading the project. Pushkar has lost oodles of weight to fit the part and also informed that the sequel will not be a continuation of the original. A lot of computer graphics and special effects will be used in making the film.

Lokmanya – Ek Yugpurush
The year will start off on a historic note with the biopic on freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak hitting the screens on the first Friday of 2015. The trailers and songs have created quite a stir and this Om Raut directed period film is sure to hit the right chords as Subodh Bhave steps into Tilak’s role.

Mitwaa
It was supposed to release in 2014 but due to some reasons the project was pushed to a Valentine’s Eve release in 2015. The makers have wisely positioned the love story in the second week on Feb, as quite a lot of lovebirds might chirp in to watch it. Directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi, the love triangle features Swwapnil Joshi, Sonalee and Prarthana Behere.

Shutter
The Marathi remake of a Malayalam film by the same name, Shutter boasts of a strong cast and story. It is a thriller that unfolds over two days in the life of a man who has just returned from abroad and the situation he lands up in. Sonalee plays the role of a prostitute in the VK Prakash film which also has Sachin Khedekar and Amey Wagh in important roles.

Timepass 2 (TP2)
Ravi Jadhav started 2014 with a bang as Timepass went on to fetch a lot of moolah for the director. Soon after he announced a sequel and while many rumours about the shooting of TP2 did the rounds, Ravi clarified that he has only recently started work on the project. He has been posting a lot of on location shots from the Konkan area where the film will be shot.
