Best Actors and Actress

Actress Smita Tambe won the Best Actress award for ‘72 Miles- Ek Pravas’. Smita had put in a lot of efforts to bring Radhakka alive on the silver screen. To look perfect for the character she did not wash her hair for about a month and for over a month she used to sit in hot sun from 9 am to 3 pm which resulted in her natural tan. Actor Ashok Lokhande won in best actor category for ‘Yashwantrao Chavan – Bakhar Eka Vaadalachi’, which was a biopic about the political leader Yashwantrao Chavan.

Avtarachi Gosht

This film won awards in three categories - Best Film, Best Director and Best Dialogues. The film is a story about a young boy who grows up listening to mythological stories. He lives in an imaginary world. The family's tenant Amod dada (played by Adinath Kothare) helps him come out of it. Popular Bollywood villain Ashish Vidyarthi will also be seen in a special role in the film. He plays the role of a demon. A comic strip released by the makers to promote the film is generating a lot of curiosity about the film. Adinath took to a micro blogging website to inform his fans about this win. He wrote, “My upcoming film @avatarachigosht wins Best Film, Best Director, Best Dialogues @ the 51st Maharashtra State Awards !”(sic)

Duniyadari

The highest grossing Marathi film of the year 2013, ‘Duniyadari’ managed to win at the State Awards in three categories. Harshada Khanvilkar and Promita Jadhav won in Best costumes and styling category. Chinmay Mandlekar won the State Award for Best Screenplay. Sai Tamhankar won the Best Supporting Actress category. This film was based on Suhas Shirvalkar’s bestseller book ‘Duniyadari’. The film set a new trend for Marathi films.

72 Miles

The film director by late National Award winning director Rajeev Patil also made a mark at 51st State Awards as the film won in three categories. Apart from the Best Actress Award, this film also won the award of Best Film Dealing With Rural Issues and the Best Director in same category. This was one of Rajeev’s last films before he passed away due to a heart attack.

Special mentions

Actress Samidha Guru who returned from a holiday was in for a pleasant surprise as she won the State Award in the category of Special Actress. The actress won the award for her performance in ‘Kapuskondyachi Gosht’. The film showcases the struggle of a village girl in Vidarbha region who fights against all odds to survive with dignity. Actor Mohan Joshi won the Special Actor Award for his performance in ‘Rangakarmi’. He played the role of a make-up artist in the film.

The debutants

Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar won the Best Debut Actress award for her performance in ‘Ekulti Ek’. Shirya’s father, renowned actor filmmaker Sachin Pilgaonkar, had made this film to mark 50 years of his presence in the entertainment industry. Nagraj Manjule walked away with the Best Debut Director award for ‘Fandry’. ‘Fandry’ had become a rage at various international film festivals and also left the box office window ringing. Dr Priyanka Talak won the Best Debut Producer for ‘A Rainy Day’.

Supporting awards

Actor Kishor Kadam won in the best supporting actor category for his performance in ‘Fandry’. Siddharth Jadhav’s performance in ‘Time Please’ was noticed by the jury and the actor went on to win the best comic actor category. Deepali Sayyed who recently contested in the Lok Sabha elections, won in the category of Best comic actress for her performance in the film ‘Mazhya Navryachi Bayko’.

Musical wins

Prakash Holkar won in the Best Lyricist category for the song ‘Don Disachi Sawali’ from the film ‘Tapaal’. Atul Lohar won the Best Music Director award for the film ‘Pikuli’. Prasanjett Kosambi won the Best Playback Singer male for the song ‘Daha Dishatun’ from the film ‘Waghi’. Mahalaxmi Iyer won the Best Playback Singer female for the song ‘Datale Dhuke’ from the film ‘Timepass’. Rasool Pookutty and Amrita Dutt won the award for Best Sound Designing for the film ‘A Rainy Day’.

Films like ‘Jayjaykar’, ‘Pitruroon’, ‘Dr Prakash Baba Amte – The Real Hero’, ‘Angarki’, ‘1909’, ‘Taani’, ‘Maat’, ‘Vees Mhanje Vees’ and ‘Ranbhoomi’ made a mark at State Awards. 'Taani' won in two categories – Best Story and Best Make Up. Rohit Utekar won the best child artist male for his performance in ‘Tapaal’. Tejashree Walawalkar won best child artist female for ‘Maat’ while Santosh Futane won in the Best Art Direction category for the same film.
