Kannada remake for Kaakha Kaakha

Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Tamil blockbuster, Kaakha Kaakha, will soon make its way to the Kannada industry
Kannada remake for Kaakha Kaakha
IT took Kollywood by storm when it hit screens back in 2003. And the Gautham Vasudev Menon-directed Kaakha Kaakha (KK) also fetched its hero Suriya much praise for his portrayal of an encounter specialist in it. Now, film-maker A Ganesh and hitmaker Madesh, who made Raam and Gaja, are all set to remake this cop saga in Sandalwood.
Ganesh, we hear, is a close friend of Kalaipuli S Dhanu, the producer of the Tamil version of Kaakha Kaakha, and had bought the rights to the film a year-and-a-half ago.

But last month, the buzz was that Sudeep was planning to remake the same film. “Yes, he wanted to. But when he got to know that I was in possession of the rights, he dropped the idea,” explains Ganesh. He adds that plans to remake KK have always been on his mind. “But it was also important to cast the right people considering the cult status the film achieved. So, we waited until we got the right cast,” he says.
And that’s how two people, who were earlier supposed to do a film, will now come together in this flick. Chiranjeevi Sarja will essay Suriya’s role, and Ramya, who was approached for Chiru’s Vaayuputra, will enact Jyothika’s character. “Suriya was fab in KK. His physique lent his character authenticity. Chiranjeevi has a similar bod, and we liked his action scenes in Vaayuputra. As for Jyothika’s role, it needed someone with experience to handle it. So, we zeroed in on Ramya,” says Ganesh.
It’s raining remakes in Kannada, but Ganesh is confident his actors and technical crew will change the tide in his favour. “Harikrishna has scored some fresh tunes and the director has tweaked some situations to suit the Kannada scene. The movie goes on the floors at the end of May,” sums up Ganesh.
