AR Murugadoss faces allegations over Sivakarthikeyan's 'Madharaasi' budget; Producer demands Rs 10 crore compensation from the director
Director AR Murugadoss is facing allegations from the producer of Sivakarthikeyan's 'Madharaasi' regarding a significant budget overrun. The producer claims the film's cost escalated from Rs 110 crore to Rs 170 crore due to poor planning. The producer is demanding Rs 10 crore compensation or for Murugadoss to script 'Ramana 2' for free.
'Madharaasi,' made under the direction of AR Murugadoss and headlined by Sivakarthikeyan, was a sensational event at the time of its release. Allegedly, this action entertainer got the following revenue: the box office collection report was about Rs 120 crore. Along with that, the movie also featured multiple fast-paced, high-energy action sequences and had a dose of stylish visuals, which made a part of the audience very excited. Vidyut Jammwal's role as the nemesis also got noticed because of the agitation he created on screen. In addition, there were strong action sequences that were commendable; still, the film got mixed reviews from both critics and audiences. Many viewers felt that the storyline could have been stronger, which prevented the film from achieving the big success that the team had expected.

Producer alleges budget increase in 'Madharaasi'

After the film’s release, the production company Sri Lakshmi Prasad reportedly raised serious allegations against director AR Murugadoss. As per CineUlagam, the producer has filed a complaint with the Producers Council, claiming that the film’s budget increased far beyond the original plan. According to the complaint, Murugadoss quoted the film to be made for a budget of Rs 110 crore, but spent around Rs 170 crore on the final production.
Plaintiff has alleged that the cost overrun was due to a lack of planning and execution, which led to inefficiencies of time on set and losses incurred by the production house.

'Madharaasi' producer seeks compensation from AR Murugadoss

In the complaint, the producer had apparently asked AR Murugadoss to pay an amount of Rs 10 crore as compensation for the losses. As per reports, the other option suggested to Murugadoss was to write the story and screenplay for ‘Ramana 2’ (Telugu Version) and hand over the rights of the film to the production house. It is reported that after this, there were some negotiations between the parties involved to sort out the issue. During these discussions, an agreement appears to have been arrived at which will allow Murugadoss to take up the scripting of “Ramana 2” and give it to the film’s producer without any remuneration. Though not an inkling of fact has been confirmed yet, it has become the hot topic of discussion in the Tamil film circuit.
