Blast is an action film for the entire family: Subash
Starring Arjun, Abhirami and Preity Mukhundhan in the lead, the upcoming film Blast will be an “action family thriller”, says debutant director Subash K Raj. At the heart of the film is what the director calls an “action family.”
Explaining the core idea, he says, “I wanted to make a woman-centric action film. I wrote the father character as a karate master who has trained his daughter since childhood. Since both the father and daughter are powerful, naturally a villain would target the mother. But then, I thought — what happens if the mother is also powerful? That idea of an ‘action family’ felt exciting to me.”
Subash says Arjun was an obvious choice for the role as the character needed someone who could convincingly be a father, hero, karate master, and perform action effortlessly. Talking about casting Abhirami, he says, “We wanted an actress who would look convincing while beating someone up. Abhirami ma’am radiates a sense of power.”
The filmmaker, who previously worked as an assistant director to Pradeep Ranganathan on Love Today, says AGS supported the script immediately after the narration. He adds that the banner offers creative freedom and ensures efficient releases. The director insists the film will appeal to family audiences as well. “Family audiences generally can’t sit through out-and-out action. But this film will be relatable for the entire family.” Blast , Subash says, will also touch upon parenting. “We have spoken about how a dad should be raising a daughter in today’s society,” he signs off.
Blast , produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh and Kalpathi S Suresh for AGS Entertainment, will be released in theatres on May 28.
