Delhi HC protects Jr NTR's personality rights, 'Jana Nayagan' makers to withdraw censor case, Mohanlal's 'L-366' first look: Top 5 South newsmakers of the day
January 29 kept South cinema buzzing with updates ranging from court cases and verdicts to multiple first looks and teasers for fans.
It has been reported that the filmmakers of 'Jana Nayagan', featuring Vijay, have realised that they may need to give up their case over censor issues. According to sources from Nakkheeran, the makers are likely to drop their court approach and explore an alternative route. This move marks a shift from pursuing litigation to seeking an administrative solution. An official decision on the withdrawal is expected to be announced soon.
The Delhi High Court ruled in favour of Jr NTR, setting a precedent by granting personal and commercial protection over the actor’s likeness and persona. The court was assured that the infringers would not make any commercial or digital unauthorised use of his name, image, affiliations, well-known nicknames or identity.
The intermediaries have also been directed to remove infringing material within the timeframes specified under IT and digital media laws. The order further restricts individuals and trolls from misusing Jr NTR’s identity and persona through merchandise, deepfake technology and AI-based content, as well as any other improper digital or physical use.
The producers have categorically denied claims that 'Salaar 2' has been shelved, confirming that the sequel is very much on track for development. There have been no postponements or stoppages, despite speculation surrounding its connection with 'The Raja Saab'.
An Instagram post featuring Prabhas and Shruti Haasan was seen as a subtle hint that Salaar 2 is moving ahead, effectively dismissing rumours that the project was off course.
Mohanlal unveiled the first look poster of his upcoming film 'L-366', sending fans into a frenzy. The poster shows the actor in a police uniform, holding a pair of shoes and sporting a fierce expression.
Fans are particularly excited about his trimmed moustache and the hashtag #L366, with many speculating about his character and the film’s storyline. The first look promises a powerful role and marks an exciting collaboration with director Tarun Moorthy of Thudarum fame.
Unbranded hoardings across Varanasi reading “In theatres – April 7, 2027” have sparked widespread speculation. The hoardings feature no logos, faces or film titles, making the release date the only striking element.
Their strategic placement across the city suggests a deliberate teaser rather than random promotion. Fans are now eagerly awaiting an official announcement, with strong buzz linking the viral hoardings to SS Rajamouli’s Mahesh Babu-starrer, tentatively titled 'Varanasi'.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
