The re-release wave in Tamil cinema continues and this time it is the 2004 blockbuster 'Ghilli' leading the charge.
The sports action film stars Vijay and Trisha Krishnan in the lead and is directed by Dharani. The movie returned to theatres across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Pondicherry, and Andhra Pradesh.
Ghilli’s high-energy action and iconic moments continue to attract viewers even after two decades. The timing also offered relief for cinephiles who were disappointed by the delay of H. Vinoth's 'Jana Nayagan'.
Day 1 box office
Reports say that 'Ghilli' re-release sold around 50,000 tickets on its first day. The film was screened in 275 screens which was spread across 250 locations in 110 cities.
According to the reports the Vijay film earned a gross of around Rs 1 crore on Day 1. This performance places 'Ghilli' among the most successful Tamil re-releases in recent times.
