'Vaali' - 1999

Ajith and Simran played the lead roles in 'Vaali', which was directed by SJ Surya, while Ajith played the dual role as a twin brother. The story of the film is about the elder brother Ajith who has a hearing and speech impairment. He secretly loves his twin brother's wife, Priya (Simran). This is one of the must-watch films of actor Ajith as he even won the Filmfare for Best Actor for his performance in the film.

'Poovellam Un Vasam' - 2000

After playing a short role in Ajith's 'Vaali', Jyotika paired up with the star in the film 'Poovellam Un Vasam'. In the film, Ajith and Jyotika have been childhood friends as they belong to neighboring families. They then fall in love with each other. The film, which was directed by Ezhil, has proven Ajith as an actor par excellence, as he gave his all to this role. Also, Ajith won the special Tamil Nadu State Film Award for his performance in 'Poovellam Un Vasam'.

'Villain' - 2002

Ajith had teamed up with the super hit director KS Ravi Kumar for the film 'Villain' in 2002. Ajith played a dual role in the film. He played the role of a bus conductor as well as a disabled man. The bus conductor Ajith robs money from the corrupt to support an organization that aids the disabled. The transformation shown by Ajith in the film was highly praised, and the actor received his second Filmfare award for Best Actor after 'Vaali'.

'Varalaru' - 2006

After the super hit success of 'Villain' in 2002, Ajith again worked with director KS Ravikumar in 2006 for 'Varalaru'. But this time, Ajith played the triple role as a father and his two sons. The actor added more skills to his acting and displayed transformations in all three roles. This trio performance of the star earned him the Filmfare Award and the special Tamil Nadu State Film Award. The film produced by NIC Arts was a profitable project, and it reportedly grossed four times the budget of the film.

'Mankatha' - 2011

'Mankatha' is an entertaining film of Thala Ajith, and more importantly, it is the 50th film of the actor. This film marked Thala Ajith's first collaboration with director Venkat Prabhu, and it developed as one of the most loved films of Ajith. The action thriller full of twists received great reviews from all centers and the film did well at the box office. Ajith bagged the Chennai Times Film Award for Best Actor for his role in the film. He played a suspended inspector who plans secretly with Arjun to loot some gambling money.
