‘Jana Nayagan’ censor row: Supreme Court to hear plea for Vijay starrer on January 15 - Report
Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has been in the news for many days. This film is special for the fans who have been waiting for its release because it is said to be the Tamil star’s last movie before he fully focuses on politics. The film is directed by H Vinoth. It was first planned to release on January 9 as a Pongal release. But the release did not happen because of certification issues.
There are also reports that revealed that the ‘Jana Nayagan’ team has hired seven senior Supreme Court lawyers.

As per the latest updates, the Supreme Court will hear the plea related to ‘Jana Nayagan’ on January 15. The case is about getting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The petition was filed by the film’s production house, KVN Productions LLP. The matter will be heard by Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Augustine George Masih, according to a report by LiveLaw.What happened?
For the unversed, the film was sent for certification in December 2025. The CBFC Examining Committee had agreed to give a U/A 16+ certificate after some edits. The makers accepted the changes and submitted a new version on December 24. On January 5, the producers were informed that the CBFC Chairperson had sent the film to a Revising Committee after a complaint. The complaint said the film hurt religious feelings and showed the armed forces badly.Court orders and observations
On January 9, a single bench of the Madras High Court ordered the CBFC to issue the certificate immediately. The same day, the CBFC appealed. A division bench then stayed the single bench order, which mentioned that the CBFC was not given enough time to reply.
