'Jana Nayagan' wins legal battle as Madras HC slams CBFC delay ordering UA certificate to be granted to Vijay starrer immediately - Report
The Madras High Court has given a big relief to Vijay and the team of 'Jana Nayagan'. As reported by Live Law, on Friday, January 9, the court directed the CBFC to immediately give a U/A certificate to the film.
Justice PT Asha made it very clear while giving the order. She said, "After examining materials, it is crystal clear that the complainant's grievance appears to be an after thought".
The court also warned that accepting such complaints can create a "dangerous trend". The judge said the CBFC chairperson’s letter uploaded on January 6 had no power. The court said it was "without jurisdiction".
The court explained that once the examining committee suggested a U/A certificate with cuts, the process was already complete. The judge said, "Exercise of power by the chairperson is without jurisdiction since the power of chairperson to send for review stood abdicated after he, on behalf of committee informed that UA certificate would be granted subject to incisions".
Because of this, the High Court used its power and cancelled the CBFC chairperson’s letter. The court then ordered the CBFC to issue the U/A certificate immediately. The petition was fully allowed. The court had earlier heard arguments from both sides and reserved its order on Wednesday.

Even though the court has cleared the film, Jana Nayagan did not release it on January 9 as planned. The makers had already announced the postponement earlier. The production house said the delay happened due to “unavoidable circumstances beyond our control.”
They also shared an emotional note. It read, “We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest.”
They added, “Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team.”
Many actors came forward to support Vijay during this tough moment. Actor Jiiva wrote, “When the wait gets longer, the impact gets bigger. Always beside you, today and every day #Thalapathy @actorvijay na. You are truly our Janangalin Nayagan. We are coming – Delayed but not defeated! #JanaNayagan.”
Harish Kalyan shared his pain and hope. He wrote, “As a Vijay sir fan and a cinema lover Jananayagan’s delay hurts badly. But the celebrations are only postponed. Kaathiruppom. #JanaNayagan @actorvijay.”
Actor Jai also stood firmly with Vijay. He wrote, “There are obstacles that are always piling up to stop you. Breaking them and coming through is not something new for you — it is just your normal way.” He added that Jana Nayagan’s release day is Pongal for him.
With the court verdict now out, fans believe the wait will end soon, and the celebration will be even bigger.
