'Kattradhu Thamizh' to 'Mayakkam Enna':Tamil movies that are character driven

While movies are given much importance to its plot and cast, it is rare to see film that are character driven. But movies that are character driven hold a special place in the history of Tamil film industry as the role of the character are imprinted deeply in the minds of audience. Here are the few character driven film in Tamil!

Ethir Neechal is the debut movie of Sivakarthikeyan as the main lead. Directed by Senthil Kumar the film was released in 2013. The film revolves around Sivakarthikeyan who tries to change his name that has a weird meaning and hides his true self and his past from his girlfriend. Trying to establish himself with his new name, he participates in a marathon race but changes his purpose from running for making his new name known to others from running for a cause of removing the wrongful accusations of his coach. Though the film plot looks like a simple revenge drama, the movie is character driven as the lead focuses on just his character.

Directed by Selvaraghavan, Mayakkam Enna starred Dhanush in the lead role. The film was released in 2011 and the music for the movie was composed by GV Prakash. While the plot of the film revolves around Dhanush's dream to become a photographer, the film is mostly character driven and focuses on his mental health when he loses one of his big works to a renowned photographer. Not able to bear the loss of his chance to become a wildlife photographer, Dhanush becomes an abusive alcoholic and soon relents when his wife miscarries and goes in search of another chance and tries to achieve his dream.

Directed by Ramesh Aravind, the film was released in 2015. The movie stars Kamal Haasan in the lead role. The movie though did not perform well commercially, is a good example for a character driven movie. The film revolves around Kamal Haasan, who plays an actor and is in verge of losing his life and tries to live it again through his movies.

Starring Jiiva in the lead role, the movie was releases in 2007. Directed by Ram, the film's music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The psychological thriller focuses on Jiiva's character played as Prabhakar goes to the extent of ending his life while his life becomes humorous as he is a Tamil teacher. Being looked down for teaching his mother tongue, Prabhakar soon obsesses over his lost love and loses his mind in the process and unintentionally kills a police. The movie in form of flashback gives the audience a feel of the person who is wrongly accused all through his life.
