'Leo' to 'Suriya 42': Five upcoming high-budget Tamil films

Several Tamil movies have been released every week, while many have been made at a higher production cost. Those big-ticket releases get great attention as they involve popular stars in lead roles and they also get huge promotions during releases. The budget of leading stars' movies has been getting increased with every movie as their box office market also gets extended. Here is a look at five upcoming mega-budget films in Tamil.

'Jailer'

Rajinikanth, the Superstar of Indian cinema, has joined hands with director Nelson Dilipkumar for his next film titled 'Jailer'. Reported to be a thriller drama, Rajinikanth is reportedly receiving a salary of Rs 80 crores, while the film's total budget is estimated to be around Rs 200 crores as the film has several leading stars across the industries. The budget of 'Jailer' is well higher than Rajinikanth's last release 'Annaatthe', and the film is expected to do better at the box office.

'Indian 2'

Kamal Haasan joined hands with director Shankar for 'Indian 2' and the film is one of the extended projects in Tamil. Being in production for over 5 years, 'Indian 2' has faced several halts and the film's budget has now crossed Rs 250 crores. But it's much easy for the highly anticipated film to recover its budget as the film has great value in the pre-release business.

'Leo'

Vijay's box office market has got extended in recent years, and his average movies have also been doing records at the box office. This made the South actor grow as a Pan-Indian actor and his next release 'Leo' is planned to release simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. Reported to be a gangster action drama, 'Leo' is reportedly planned to be made on a budget of Rs 250 to 300 crores, which includes Vijay's salary of Rs 120 crores. But the makers have already into the safe zone as the film earned almost Rs 250 crores in pre-release business.

'Thangalaan'

Chiyaan Vikram has joined forces with Pa Ranjith for 'Thangalaan' and the film is set in the 1890s. Despite the actor's failure at the box office with his last solo release, the makers of 'Thangalaan' have come forward to invest a huge amount for the actor's next as the film has the strength to achieve big. 'Thangalaan' is reportedly estimated to be made on a budget of Rs 150 crores, and the makers aim to release the film in most languages to make it reach a wider audience.

'Suriya 42'

Suriya has joined hands with director Siruthai Siva for a periodic action drama, and the mega action drama is calculated to be made on a budget of over 300 crores. This is three times higher than Suriya's previous high-budget film, and the film is planned to be released in 10 languages. Suriya is said to be appearing in five different characters and the film will be traveling across time.
