‘Parasakthi,’ the movie starring
Sivakarthikeyan and directed by
Sudha Kongara, has been granted a U/A 16+ certificate by the Censor Board, ending its release wait. The movie has been certified just one day before its scheduled release date, allowing those aged 16 and above to legally view the film. With a 2 hour and 43 minute duration, the censor certification is the last obstacle preventing this movie from being released.
Revising Committee steps in after extensive cut suggestions
The producers have officially announced the censoring of the movie 'Parasakthi' and its release in theaters tomorrow (January 10). The process of giving the movie a certificate was not seamless, though. As per the viral screenshot captured from the CBFC website, the board wanted more than 25 cuts in the film, which left the industry fearing trouble. The film’s team then approached the Revising Committee. Following their review, the committee reportedly suggested changes from cuts to mutes to clear the censorship.
Historical setting invites closer examination
However, there were still hurdles in the censoring of the movie as it was made in a sensitive historical period. The movie was made in the 1960s during the Hindi-imposition war and hence the Revising Committee wanted to scrutinize a few movie clippings. Questions were asked about whether some scenes were based on historical facts or were a total fabrication for cinematic effect, which seemed to intensify the review process.
Clearance ends release uncertainty
The producers allegedly insisted that the movie was based on facts from the past and thus provided necessary documentation to the panel. However, these were seen to be inadequate at first, leading to a delay in acquiring the certificate and a possible delay in screening. However, with the U/A 16+ certificate now acquired, all objections were silenced and 'Parasakthi' can be screened in theatres as initially scheduled.
