'Priyamanavale' to 'Pokkiri': Five blockbuster Tamil films of Vijay that were remade from Telugu

Vijay started his career as a young innocent actor and has now grown into a great star in Tamil cinema. Thalapathy Vijay's father and director SA Chandrasekar is the actor’s backbone. He was the one who introduced Vijay in his 1992 directorial 'Naalaiya Theerpu'. The star then established himself in the industry with his hard work by delivering some super hit films. Even though Vijay has produced some blockbuster films, some of them are remade from other language films which were blockbusters in those industries. Here are five blockbusters of Vijay from 'Priyamanavale' to 'Pokkiri' that were remade from Telugu films.

'Priyamanavale' - 2000

The 2000 romantic drama 'Priyamaanavale' was remade from 'Pavitra Bandham' starring Venkatesh in the lead role. 'Pavitra Bandham' was a blockbuster hit in Telugu, and it was the second film to be remade in six other languages. Vijay and Simran played the lead roles in 'Priyamaanavale', and the favorite combo of many recreated their amazing chemistry in the film. 'Priyamaanavale' was directed by K Selva Bharathy, and the music of the film was by SA Rajkumar.

'Youth' - 2002

The romantic drama 'Youth' features Vijay and Shaheen Khan, and the film was directed by Vincent Selva. This film was remade from the 2000 Telugu film 'Chiru Navvuto', which was directed by G Ram Prasad. 'Youth' was an equally successful venture when compared to the original version 'Chiru Navvuto'. The film bagged positive reviews and did well at the box office. The music of the film was scored by Mani Sharma, and the dialogues were written by Prasanna Kumar.

4/6

'Vaseegara' - 2003

The title of 'Vaseegara' was inspired by the famous song from 'Minnale', and the film was a remake of 'Nuvvu Naaku Nachav', which was the highest-grossing film in Venkatesh Daggubati's career. The Tamil remake was directed by K Selva Bharathy, and it features Vijay and Sneha in lead roles. 'Vaseegara' is quite famous for the romantic scenes between Vijay and Sneha, and the comedy of Vadivelu.

5/6

'Ghilli' - 2004

'Ghilli' features Vijay, Trisha and Prakash Raj in lead roles, and the film was a remake of the 2003 Telugu film 'Okkadu', which features Mahesh Babu, Bhoomika Chawla and Prakash Raj in main roles. 'Okkadu' bagged many awards including the Filmfare awards and others. 'Ghilli' did an amazing business and emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2004 surpassing Rajinikanth's 'Padayappa,' in domestic markets. Also, it was a game-changing film for Vijay in his acting career.

6/6

'Pokkiri' - 2007

'Pokkiri' was the second remake of Mahesh Babu's movie for Vijay. The action thriller 'Pokkiri' was remade from the 2006 Telugu film 'Pokiri', and the original version directed by Puri Jagannadh had grossed some magical numbers at the box office. Vijay's 'Pokkiri', which was directed by Prabhu Deva received praise for its action sequences, humor and songs. It performed well enough at the box office to turn out as one of the highest-grossing films of Vijay.
