Veteran singer Vani Jairam honoured with Padma Bhushan award

National Award-winning legendary playback singer Vani Jairam will receive the Padma Bhushan - the third-highest civilian award in India. A total of 106 people were selected for Padma awards on the eve of the 74th Republic Day. While there are six Padma Vibhushan awardees, there are nine Padma Bhushan awardees, which include inger Vani Jairam, educator Sudha Murthy, Kapil Kapoor, Kamlesh D Patel, Deepak Dhar, Swami Chinna Jeeyar, Sumar Kalyanpur, Kumar Mangalam Birla and SL Bhyrappa. Apart from these, the list comprises 91 Padma Shri Awards.Vani Jairam has a number of songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tulu and Oriya to her credit. She has performed extensively in the country and across the world. It is to be noted that she has won National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer thrice.
