Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ to Prabhas’ ‘The Raja Saab’: Biggest South release for Pongal 2026

Makar Sankranti/ Pongal is around the corner, which means a full-on movie spree for cinema lovers. Festivals are incomplete without going to the cinemas for Indians, especially for those in the Southern part of the country. Their prayers are answered, because this year we have some massive films gearing up for release. From Vijay’s farewell film 'Jana Nayagan’ to Prabhas starrer ‘The Raja Saab’, here’s a list of films you can catch in the cinemas this Pongal 2026.

Jana Nayagan

Vijay’s last theatrical release, ‘Jana Nayagan’, before he turns to politics full-time, is tentatively scheduled for January 9 (final release date depends on the court's verdict). The film is helmed by H Vinoth. Actors Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani will be seen in important roles in the film. As ‘Jana Nayagan’ will mark Vijay’s last release, the craze around the film’s release is intense, and advance ticket bookings show huge promise.

The Raja Saab

Prabhas’ most-awaited film ‘The Raja Saab’ will be hitting the silver screens ahead of the festival week. The film, directed by Maruthi, is slated for release on January 9. The film has an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar, and Zarina Wahab. What can the audience expect? Horror, fantasy, and comedy. The perfect combo for the festival season.

Manashankara Varaprasad Garu

Yes, that’s right. You also get a Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara film for this Pongal 2026. The film, directed by Anil Ravipudi, is slated for release on January 12, just in time for the festival season. The upcoming film is touted to be a wholesome entertainer. The film is expected to cater to Chiranjeevi’s family audience.

Bhartha Mahasayulu Vignapthi

Another film in line for the Pongal 2026 celebrations is Ravi Teja’s ‘Bhartha Mahasayulu Vignapthi’. The film is slated to be released on January 13. A comedy-drama, the film is directed by Kishore Tirumala. You can expect Ravi Teja’s signature humor, along with emotional storytelling. The film also has actors Ashika Ranganath, Dimple Hayathi, Sunil, Satya, Vennala Kishore, Sudharkar, and Muralidhar in supporting roles.
