5 upcoming stars of Tamil cinema

Ever since ‘Remo’ hit the jackpot at the box office, the entire Tamil film industry has been singing praises of actor Sivakarthikeyan. However, the buzz for the movie went up a notch when Rajinikanth himself came out in praise for the romantic comedy. Thalaiva even went on to call Siva an 'upcoming superstar', the highest praise an actor can hope to receive. While Siva may be enjoying his time under the spotlight, there are a few more actors in Kollywood who have all the potential to became 'the next big thing' in Tamil cinema. We have drawn up a list of our top five stars....

Sivakarthikeyan

Sivakarthikeyan is definitely the man to watch out for at the moment. In a few short years, he tactfully manoeuvred his way around the film industry to become a bankable hero. From ‘Marina’ in 2012 to ‘Remo’, all his films have fared well at the box office, with the last two films definitely beeing declared as blockbusters. Sivakarthikeyan has succeeded in keeping the crowds entertained in every movie. At the rate at which he is growing as an actor, superstar stardom is just a short walk away.

Vijay Sethupathi

Vijay Sethupathi maybe not as popular as Sivakarthikeyan, but he has managed to keep the cash counters ringing by providing back-to-back hits. But ‘Makkal Selvan’ is all set to change his fortunes this year as he has already released six movies in 2016 so far, all of which have done very well at the box office and have already been declared as hits. The best part about Vijay is his versatility which very few actors can match up to. Give him funny, quirky roles, or grey characters or an out-and-out commercial hero; he pulls it all off with utmost ease. Armed with immense talent, Sethupathi is climbing his way up the ladder.

Vishal

Vishal has had his fair share of success and failures in Kollywood. But things have really started looking up for the actor. Vishal gained prominence when he won the presidential position of Nadigar Sangam, defeating veteran actor Sarathkumar. He began 2016 with a bang with the action thriller ‘Kathakali’ where he proved that he can pull off a variety of roles. This was followed with the commercial entertainer ‘Marudhu’, which did fairly well. At the moment, Vishal has six projects in his kitty which makes him a force to be reckoned with.

Jayam Ravi

Jayam Ravi is also not very new to the world of cinema. His films had an average turn out, until the release of 'Thani Oruvan’, which turned out to be a game changer. He was widely appreciated for his performance as Mithran, a cop who takes on the system. After this, he earned critical acclaim for playing a kickboxer in ‘Booloham’. However, the experiments didn’t stop there. Ravi also starred in Kollywood’s first zombie movie ‘Miruthan’ and is now working on India’s first ever space film. With such zeal and boldness, Jayam Ravi has a long way to go.

Karthi

Karthi outgrew his older brother’s shadow in his first film titled ‘Paruthiveeran’. Karthi has never shied away from taking on bold roles in many movies. What’s more, he knows exactly how to mix experimental films with commercial ones. Not just that, he has also secured a great foothold in Tollywood with ‘Oopiri’, which hit theatres early this year.
