‘Tamizh Padam 2’: Five reasons to watch Shiva and CS Amudhan’s film

The blockbuster duo- Shiva and CS Amudhan are back! Nearly eight years after the release of ‘Tamizh Padam’, the duo has now come up with a sequel to the blockbuster parody film titled ‘Tamizh Padam 2’, which is all set to hit the screens on July 12. The sequel has already created a humongous hype among fans and rightly so. With the film slated to release tomorrow, here are five reasons why you shouldn’t miss ‘Tamizh Padam 2’.

CS Amudhan and Shiva

If you’ve been following CS Amudhan’s Twitter handle, then it’s easy to say that he’s one of the wittiest directors we have today. Be it politics or cinema, Amudhan has been actively voicing his opinions on several issues. Needless to say, his tweets are loaded with sarcasm that have gotten a good response from his followers. On the other hand, we have Shiva, whose comic timing is just epic! Several films such as ‘Kalakalappu’ and‘144’ have become successful mainly for Shiva’s performance. More than anything, Tamil cinema currently has a dearth of comedy. If ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ teaser is anything to go by, it looks like CS Amudhan and Shiva are likely to fill the void.

The success of ‘Tamizh Padam’

When CS Amudhan and Shiva came up with ‘Tamizh Padam’, it was entirely a different ball game back in 2010. Even for fans, it was something new and was touted to be the first parody film in Tamil cinema. Had it flopped, ‘Tamizh Padam’ would have been a different story. Fortunately, ‘Tamizh Padam’ opened to rave reviews from critics and became extremely successful at the box office. So much so that the film, over the years, has achieved a cult status. Apart from movies, ‘Tamizh Padam’ also spoofed some of the pop-culture things like the pug dog. In an attempt to spoof some of the cult classics of Tamil cinema, CS Amudhan was unanimously appreciated for his screenplay, which could have easily earned him the tag ‘troll’. Now that the first part has such huge fan following, fans are eagerly looking forward for the sequel.

List of films parodied in ‘Tamizh Padam 2’

Tipped to be a no-holds-barred comedy, ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ has spoofed a whole list of films in its teaser. To begin with, the film was previously titled ‘Tamizh Padam 2.0’ taking a mild dig at the Rajinikanth-starrer ‘2.0’. In a hilarious press statement, the makers then stated that they’ve removed ‘zero’ from the title and henceforth be known as ‘Tamizh Padam 2’. What caught the attention of the audiences is the teaser, which trolled several popular Tamil films like ‘Thuppakki’, ‘Vivegam’, ‘Thupparivaalan’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Neethane En Ponvasantham’, ‘Mankatha’ and ‘Mersal’ to name a few. In the recently released promo, Amudhan also parodied the iconic ‘Thevar Magan’. Apart from movies, ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ has also taken several digs at some of the social issues such as jallikattu, GST and Digital India, Nadigar Sangam and Tamil Rockers to name a few. Even if the film manages to deliver half of its teaser, then ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ is very likely to emerge a winner at the box office.

5/6

Terrific buzz on social media

Ever since the commencement of the project, ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ has been one of the most awaited Tamil films. Thanks to its kickass promos and posters, the film has created nothing short of a terrific pre-release hype on the internet. In fact, the teaser of ‘Tamizh Padam 2’, which released in June, set the right expectations for the film. The teaser, which spoofed a whole list of celebrities and films, became a sensational hit on YouTube and has clocked in more than 7 million views. If not anything, ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ is a glowing example of how to market a film in the digital era. After taking a dig at the Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam in the first look poster, CS Amudhan and team have parodied almost all top celebrities. In order to keep up with the hype around the film, ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ spoofed the first look posters of several popular films such as ‘Vivegam’, ‘Kaala’, ‘Sarkar’, ‘Mahanati’ and recently, ‘Maanadu’ as well.

6/6

Good supporting cast and music

Produced by Shashikanth’s Y NOT Studios, one of the major highlights of ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ is its supporting cast. Apart from Shiva, the film stars actor-comedian Sathish, who is reported to be playing the prime antagonist. In fact, pictures of Sathish sporting different makeovers including The Joker, Omar Qureshi from ‘Vishwaroopam’, Prakash Raj’s character from ‘Appu’ and Hannibal Lecter have been very well-received by fans. Like the first part, the sequel will feature Manobala, Santhana Bharathi and R Soundarajan playing Shiva’s sidekicks. Disha Pandey, who played the leading lady in the first part, will also be playing an important role in the sequel. ‘Tamizh Padam 2’ has Iswarya Menon, who parodied Kajal Aggarwal from ‘Vivegam’ in the teaser. Actress Kasthuri will also have a special item song in the sequel. N Kannan is in charge of the music department and the songs have been well-received. Especially the songs ‘Evada Unna Petha’ and ‘Naa Yaarumilla’.
