Movie: Vetrivel
Music director: D Imman
Ratings: 3.5
Review: D Imman has been having an ordinary run in his last few albums. Will the Sasikumar-starrer Vetrivel help him get on track? The album starts with Adiye, a beautiful melody sung by Sathyaprakash and Vandana Srinivasan. It is well-orchestrated with the string section being its highlight and takes you back to the 80s.
The flute interlude also adds to the tracks delightfulness. The song will stay in your playlist for quite some time, and will break into the charts, too.
Aatam Pottu by Saicharan is an energetic number. The heavy arrangement is what strikes you the most. With Saicharan rendering the song with full energy, the song gets the celebratory mood right in this. Onnappola Oruthana is a folkish melody rendered by Shreya Ghoshal, who breathes intensity into the lyrics, and her euphonious voice leaves an impression. This tune, again, takes you back to the 80s, in a pleasant way. Adhuva Idhuva by Aalaap Raju is a rock-meets-folk kind of a song. Despite this being a short number, Aalaap impresses with his mellow voice. Immans shrewd layering ensures that the melding of the two genres doesnt sound odd to the ears.
Naattu Saalaiyile by Jeyamoorthi, VM Mahalingam, Anitha Venkat and Kovilpatti Amali is an out-and-out folk number. It will be interesting to see how this dialogue-oriented song will be picturised. Even though he doesnt stray too much out of his comfort zone, with Vetrivel, Imman has gotten back to doing what he does best delivering an album that nicely balances melody and folk.
