Roshan Meka and
Anaswara Rajan's highly anticipated sports drama, ‘Champion’ was released on the big screens yesterday. Directed by
Pradeep Advaitham, the film has received positive reviews from internet users, calling it content rich movie. However, it has made a relatively slower start at the box office.
According to a report by trade analyst Sacnilk, the movie made over Rs 2.75 crore on the first day of its release.
Theatrical occupancy
The film recorded an overall Telugu occupancy at 41.97%. The morning shows started with fewer audience as it started at 28.18%. It later increased to 46.76% in the afternoon and had some similar numbers with 46.02% in the evening shows. Later, the night shows also had somewhat similar numbers at 46.91%.
About ‘Champion’
The movie revolves around Michael C. Williams plaed by Roshan Meka. His character is seen as a talented footballer from Secunderabad who wants to play for Manchester in England. However, he finds himself entangled in arms smuggling and ends up in Bhairanpally village, resisting Razakar atrocities.
There he falls in for Chandrakala, played by Anaswara Rajan.
Interestingly, the film marks Roshan Meka’s comeback after a four-year break and also serves as the Telugu debut of Malayalam actress Anaswara Rajan. The music of ‘Champion’ is composed by Mickey J Meyer.
Social media reaction
A social media user of X (formerly Twitter) wrote about their firsthand experience of the film, stating, “An excellent film with a perfect story and concept. Felt very fresh after a long time. Superb songs and BGM. Top-notch performance by Roshan and very good production values. Only minus is slow narration !!”
