Chiranjeevi, popularly known as the megastar of Tollywood, broke many records in the Telugu film industry. Appearing in over more than 150 films, Chiru is known to be one of the most influential actors of Tollywood. Chiranjeevi, who has set many records as a hero, has also created a record for the films he has rejected. Although the star actor worked for so many big-budget films, several films were featuring him that got shelved, and almost nobody knew about them. Here are some of Chiranjeevi's movies that got shelved!

Auto Johnny

When Chiranjeevi wanted to make his comeback, he approached filmmaker Puri Jagannadh, and both were discussed a story. The film had been titled, Auto Johnny. However, the outcome of their discussion is still unknown. It is said that Chiru didn’t like the second half of the movie, and the project was eventually put to stop. After that, He made his comeback with Khaidi No 150, directed by VV Vinayak and scored a big hit.

Bhooloka Veerudu

Ace filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is known for his experimental science fiction films. Bhooloka Veerudu was his dream project. Touted to be a scientific action-drama, the film was supposed to star megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead role. Even Singeetam announced that he was going to direct Chiru and the project launch was a low-key affair. However, the film never got made due to unknown reasons. The film was supposed to be backed by Aswani Dutt under his home banner Vyjayanthi Movies.

Vinalani Vundi

Chiranjeevi had teamed up with controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma for a film titled Vinalani Vundi, which got shelved due to his disagreement with the script. The shooting for Vinalani Vundi kicked off in 1988, and both Chiranjeevi and Tabu found their space in the film. Chiru even shot for the first schedule of the film with Tabu. Music by Mani Sharma, two songs of the film had been shot by the team. Aswani Dutt was supposed to produce the film under his home banner Vyjayanthi Movies.

Abu-Baghdad Gaja Donga

Abu-Baghdad Gaja Donga was supposed to be a massive Indian-Hollywood project starring Chiranjeevi in the titular role. The film went on to the floors in the mid-90s, but unfortunately got shelved nearly 20 per cent after it was shot, due to protest by Muslim religious groups, alleging that the holy papers of the Quran were dipped into a tea to make it look like an ancient one. Titled Return of The Thief of Baghdad in English, the Hollywood version was supposed to be directed by Douchan Gersi. Helmed by Suresh Krishna, the Telugu version had been titled Abu-Baghdad Gaja Donga. The big-budget flick has music by AR Rahman, while Richard H Clain of King Kong and Camelot fame had been roped in as the cinematographer of the film. Guiles Master of Mummy fame is on board as production designer for the project. Thota Tharani was the art director. Sasha, a Pepsi model in the US was paired up opposite Chiru in the film. Veteran Hollywood actor Omar Sharief had been roped in to play a crucial role.

Vajrala Donga

Vajrala Donga was another project of Chiranjeevi that made headlines in 1989. This movie was supposed to be Sridevi’s debut production venture. She wanted to make a film starring megastar Chiranjeevi, and as per reports director, A Kodana Ramireddy shot a song of the film. Bappi Lahari has been roped in to compose the music. After a series of discussions, everyone left the movie stating it lacked soul. However, the following year, both Chiru and Sridevi starred in the K Raghavendra Rao directorial film Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, which remained one of the best classic movies of all time in Tollywood.
