Fresh twist in #MicrofinanceFraudCase: Mangli alleges extortion, files fresh police complaint

The legal standoff between Mangli and advocate Singapogu Subbarao escalated on Sunday, with the singer now alleging extortion and intimidation — adding a fresh layer to the ongoing police investigation into the `10 crore microfinance case.



Extortion charge, threat claims
In a complaint filed at Panjagutta Police Station on Sunday evening, Mangli alleged that Subbarao demanded ₹10 lakh during a March 22 meeting, claiming he would remove certain videos related to her from social media.
When she refused, she said the situation escalated. “He threatened me, saying that if I don’t pay him, he would drag my name into the media,” she alleged, adding that abusive language was used. Denying all allegations against her, Mangli said, “I do not need to cheat anyone for money — singing is my life,” calling the episode intimidation, harassment and an attempt to extort money.

Police conduct alcohol test; Subbarao cries foul
In another strange turn of events, Subbarao, who appeared before police on Monday on behalf of the investors, was subjected to an alcohol test during the inquiry. “Why am I being subjected to an alcohol test? I am not even driving a vehicle,” protested the advocate, adding, “I consumed alcohol the previous night, which is why the meter is showing its presence. But why am I being tested now?” Calling the move unnecessary, he alleged, “This is being done to distract from the main case.” Police officials, however, maintained that such tests can be part of procedure and are not limited to driving-related checks.
