Pan-Indian actress and acclaimed singer Shruti Haasan is celebrating her 34th birthday today (January 28). After taking a brief break from acting to reassess things and reshape her career in the showbiz world, the gorgeous gal is back to business with two big-ticket films down south; Ravi Teja’s ‘Krack’ and ‘Laabam’ opposite Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi. In recent years, she has also been giving live performances in London with her British rock band.

With close to 13 million followers on Instagram, Shruti Haasan is a darling of social media. At the age of six, Shruti Haasan sang her first song in the album of her father’s 1992 film ‘Kshatriya Putrudu’ composed by Ilaiyaraaja. She followed it up a few years later with the evergreen ‘Chupadi Chupadi Chaachi’ from ‘Chachi 420’, ‘Rama Rama’ from ‘Hey Ram’ and a couple more. Her first celluloid appearance was a cameo role as Vallabhbhai Patel’s daughter in the Tamil-Hindi bilingual ‘Hey Ram’ helmed by Kamal himself. Born to veteran Bollywood actress Sarika, Shruti completed her education in Chennai and Mumbai, before leaving to California to learn the nuances of music at the Musicians Institute.

Besides her outings in Hindi, Shruti kicked-off her South innings with the Telugu fantasy-adventure ‘Anaganaga O Dheerudu’ in 2011. Despite the film failed on the commercial front, this powerhouse of talent bagged glowing praises for her alluring beauty and captivating screen-presence. She followed it up with average flicks like ‘7th Sense’, ‘Oh My Friend’ and ‘3’. However, it was Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Gabbar Singh’ that turned the tables for Shruti as the glam-doll nailed it in the subtle role of Bhagyalakshmi with her adorable looks and ease in acting. From then on, the diva experienced a series of hits like ‘Balupu’, ‘Yevadu’, ‘Race Gurram’, ‘Srimanthudu’, ‘Vedalam’, and ‘Premam’.

Despite hands-full in acting, Shruti Haasan has never neglected her passion for singing. She crooned quite a few songs in her Telugu and Tamil films. She also turned into a music composer for the South remake of the Hindi film ‘A Wednesday’. In 2010, Haasan collaborated with Dave Kushner for the Bollywood film ‘Hisss’. While Kushner composed the track, Shruti wrote the lyrics, sang the song and appeared in the promotional video of the film. She is also the vocalist of an alternative rock band, The Extramentals. Shruti Haasan and Michael Corsale have ended their relationship after two years of dating. Speaking on her relationship with her former Italian boyfriend, the former said “I was the cool type. I was very innocent and everyone would boss around me. I am a very emotional person that's why they could take over. I would say it was a very good experience for me.”

Admitting that there is no particular formula to fall in love, she added “Even now there is no formula. Good people are good at good times and the same people are bad at times. But I have no regrets. It was overall a good experience for me. I have learnt a lot and it was a learning experience. But I always look for that one great love and I will be happy to announce that this is the one I have been waiting for.”

During her candid chat with Manchu Lakshmi for a chat show, Shruti Haasan spoke about her health and the reason why she took a brief break from acting. She said “I was also unwell. I haven’t spoken about it but I had a medical condition. And you can't talk about these things. People are always saying, 'Shruthi has become fat'. I was trying to heal myself. I stopped caring about what people were saying. I had to figure it all out. I took a one year break.”

Shruti Haasan is making her digital debut with the upcoming short film ‘Sita’. Directed by Priyanka Banerjee, the less-than-an-hour film has an all-female cast featuring Kajol, Neha Dhupia, Neena Kulkarni, Mukta Barve, Sandhya Mhatre, Rama Joshi, Shinvani Raghuvanshi and Yashaswini Dayam. Along with this, she is romancing Ravi Teja in Krack and Vijay Sethupathi in Laabam. Recently, she crooned a song for the latter in Chennai.
