Actress
Sreeleela is currently facing some heat online amid a debate after making recent comments during the success party of Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh’. Her remark, “period is not an excuse,” has led to criticism that it was insensitive, given that she is a qualified doctor.
During the event, Sreeleela shared her personal experience of working through physically demanding shoots during periods. She shared that she shot for songs and added that women should push beyond physiological barriers if they want equality.
Sreeleela’s comments
She said, “All of my songs, I can say, most of them at least have been appreciated. I have shot while I have been on my period, so that is not an excuse anywhere. When we want things in power, when we say we want things equally. I feel we have to push beyond physiological barriers. So psychological, physiological, all of this is not an excuse."
Social media reaction
Soon after the video came out, many people seemed not to like what she said. They felt her words were unkind. Many users on Reddit said their periods are very painful for them and not everyone feels the same. Some said her statement made it look like women are making excuses, which they did not agree with. The clip spread fast on social media and many started talking about it.
Several users also mentioned that period experiences differ greatly from person to person. Many shared that while some women may be able to continue working, others deal with severe pain, fatigue, or medical conditions such as PCOS, making daily activities difficult.
The criticism grew as Sreeleela recently finished her MBBS.
