Priyanka Chopra, Upasana Konidela, Diana Hayden: Celebrities who opened up about freezing their eggs

In recent years, many women have begun embracing the power of science to make choices about their fertility—and celebrities are leading the way. From global icons like Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Ram Charan’s wife entrepreneur Upasana Konidela, several women in the limelight have opened up about freezing their eggs to take charge of their reproductive health. Their stories not only break taboos but also offer hope, empowerment, and awareness for others navigating similar decisions. Here are five inspiring celebrities who spoke candidly about egg freezing and why they chose to prioritise their readiness over societal timelines.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been vocal about freezing her eggs in her early 30s. Encouraged by her mother, Dr Madhu Chopra, who is a gynaecologist, Priyanka made the decision at a time when she was focused on building her global career. She described the process as liberating, calling it the “best gift” she gave herself. In an old podcast with UnWrapped, PeeCee shared that she was filming Quantico at the time and called the process painful. “You have hormonal ups and downs. It makes you feel insane. You feel bloated,” she shared. Priyanka welcomed Malti Marie with Nick Jonas in 2022 through surrogacy.

Upasana Konidela

Upasana Konidela, entrepreneur and wife of Telugu actor Ram Charan, revealed that she froze her eggs early in her marriage. In an old interview with Hindustan Times, she stated that she and Ram Charan made a conscious decision to delay parenthood until they felt emotionally and financially secure. According to Upasana, the couple prioritised self-growth and career stability before starting a family. In a recent conversation with Masoom Minawala, she added that she welcomed her first baby girl, Klin Kaara Konidela, naturally—even though she had frozen her eggs.

Mona Singh

Popular actress Mona Singh shared that she froze her eggs at the age of 34, shortly before her marriage. In an interview with Humans of Bombay, she openly discussed wanting to enjoy her married life and travel with her husband without immediately jumping into motherhood. Mona explained that while she adores children, she wasn't mentally prepared to take on the responsibility so soon. Her choice to freeze her eggs gave her peace of mind and allowed her to approach parenting on her own terms.

Ekta Kapoor

Ekta Kapoor decided to freeze her eggs at the age of 36, a decision she described as empowering. Later, she welcomed her son, Ravie Kapoor, via surrogacy in 2019. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Ekta said, “I had stored my eggs when I was 36. Had a calling for a long time. I don’t know what it was. I thought I might get married, might not. Very late, if it happens. Or it may never happen because I’m not going to do anything just for the sake of it. I’ve always been such a nonconformist—there was no way I would... (conform to marriage).”

Diana Hayden

Former Miss World Diana Hayden was one of the earliest Indian celebrities to publicly advocate for egg freezing. She froze her eggs in her mid-30s while she was single and focused on her career. Later, Diana used those frozen eggs to conceive her children—proving that modern science can truly empower women to take control of their fertility timelines. She gave birth to her first child in 2016, followed by twins later on. “A career woman need not think about her biological clock and get pressurised into getting married earlier than she wants to, or have a baby when she isn’t ready. I froze my eggs for two reasons: I was busy with my career at that time and, more importantly, I was very clear that I was going to wait to fall in love and marry before having a baby,” she told The Times of India.
