Actor Shalini Pandey recently wore a T-shirt that said, “I love desi dogs,” during PETA India’s Adopt, Don’t Shop campaign in Mumbai. The event was aimed at encouraging people not to buy dogs from breeders but to adopt dogs from the streets and shelters.

Love for her dog Bir

During the event, while speaking with News18, the ‘Arjun Reddy’ actress also shared about her own indie dog, Bir. She rescued Bir from Himachal in 2021. She said, “I’ve become a better human being in the last few years because of my dogs.” She calls Bir smart, caring, and very sweet.Bir is now seen a lot on Shalini’s Instagram. She said, “My dog, Bir, when I play with her, she is so aware if she is hurting me or not. She is so compassionate and sensitive.” She loves how dogs understand feelings.
Shalini said indie dogs are very special. She said, “They are so smart, intelligent, and curious.”

Shalini explained the meaning of the campaign. She said, “The campaign is about ‘Adopt, Don’t Shop,’ and like how my T-shirt says ‘I love desi dogs,’ and I do absolutely believe in that.” She asked people to think before they get a pet. She said indies are beautiful and learn things fast.
She said, “Once they see that you are giving them love, they will give you so much love back that you are not ready for.”

Shalini also shared her thoughts about stray dogs being removed from the streets. She said it is very sad and wrong. She said, “It is really cruel and disturbing to know that because they are a part of our society, they are Indians.” She said we must find good solutions and not push animals away.
