SS Rajamouli pens emotional tribute to Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli ahead of IPL 2025 final: Heartbreak is inevitable
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli recently shared a wholehearted message on Instagram ahead of the much-anticipated IPL 2025 final between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The post featured a touching photo of Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer and RCB’s Virat Kohli shaking hands after their Qualifier match, capturing the spirit of sportsmanship and the emotional stakes of the upcoming final.
The 'RRR' director spoke of the journeys of both captains. Speaking about Shreyas Iyer he recalled how he was dropped from Delhi's team despite leading them to a final, then faced a similar fate with Kolkata, but finally guided a young Punjab Kings squad to the IPL final for the first time in 11 years.
He wrote, "Iyer guiding Bumrah’s and Boult’s yorkers to the third man boundary… Exquisite…This man leads Delhi to a final… and is dropped…Leads Kolkata to a trophy… dropped… Leads a young Punjab to the finals after 11 years. He deserves this year’s trophy too…"
On the other hand, he acknowledged Virat Kohli's consistent brilliance over the years, he wrote, "On the other hand, it is Kohli… who is performing year on year… compiling thousands of runs. The final frontier for him… He deserves it too. Whatever the result… it’s going to be a heartbreak…"
The 'Baahubali' director shared that regardless of the result, the final would be an emotional moment, with heartbreak inevitable for one side.
Punjab Kings secured their spot in the final with a thrilling five-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, setting the stage for a historic clash against RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3.
Meanwhile, off the field, Rajamouli is busy working on his upcoming film 'SSMN29', which stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is touted to be one of the costliest films in India.
