SS Rajamouli’s 'Varanasi' plot BUZZ: Mahesh Babu stars as time-travelling hero; Epic sci-fi action-adventure incoming

SS Rajamouli is all set to take audiences on a spectacular ride with his next big film 'Varanasi'. The film stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The release date is announced for April 7 next year and fans are already buzzing with excitement.

Catastrophe strikes Varanasi

Reports from Letterboxd says that the core plot of 'Varanasi' revolves around a catastrophic event. An asteroid hits the ancient city of Varanasi in India. This moment is more than just destruction as it starts a series of events that could change the fate of the world.




At the center of the story is Mahesh Babu as Rudra. His character embarks on a globe-spanning and time-bending journey. “When an asteroid hits the city of Varanasi in India, what are the events that it leads to? Is the world about to be doomed? Does it need a saviour who has to traverse across the continents and timelines to influence the most crucial moment in the history of Earth?” the plot says.

Inspiration from Ramayana

The film also draws inspiration from a key episode of the Ramayana. This episode is said to be one of the highlights of the film.


Producer Karthikeya spoke about the release date in a recent interview with Variety. “April 7, 2027, sits within the festive period of Ugadi and Gudi Padwa, flows into the weekend, and is followed by Ambedkar Jayanti and Rama Navami, creating a strong extended theatrical window,” he said. “It’s a date that perfectly aligns with us and all our stakeholders.”

Global appeal and expectations

With Mahesh Babu leading and supported by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran the film is expected to appeal to audiences across the world. Fans are especially excited to see how Rajamouli handles the asteroid disaster, the time-travel elements, and the epic scale of the story.

SS Rajamouli announced the release date of the film on the last day. He shared a new poster from the film and wrote, "April 7th, 2027… #VARANASI." The post was filled with comments. Cricketer David Warner wrote, "How goood is this." A fan wrote, "This will be EPIC." Another one wrote, "James Cameron gave us an AVATAR. Rajamouli is now giving us VÃRANÃSI.."
