Songs and dance sequences have always been an integral part of Indian cinema, especially down South. The typical regional films, Telugu or Tamil, have to accommodate all the stimulating ingredients like songs, dances, fights, comedy and romance, to successfully reach out to the masses and make a profit out of it. Though coming-of-age stories and realistic screenplays are arriving by the day and finding an edge over the regular cinema, the commercial format is still a force to reckon with in Tollywood.

Coming back to songs and dance, a few numbers from Telugu movies in 2018 have garnered immense curiosity among the viewers before the release itself. Owing to their wonderful music, catchy lyrics and eye-popping choreography, these songs became instant hits and attracted more audience to the theatres.

'Ammakutti Ammakutti' (Jai Simha)

Continuing his victorious form in the festive season of Sankranthi, Nandamuri Balakrishna kicked off 2018 with a solid hit in the form of ‘Jai Simha’. The KS Ravikumar directorial is a blend of an emotional story with contemporary action sequences that tapped both the actor and star in Balayya in equal measure. A special mention must be given to the mass-masala number ‘Ammakutti Ammakutti’. Both Balakrishna and Natasha Doshi rocked the screens in this song with their sizzling chemistry and fascinating dance moves. This turned out to be a big element for the film’s triumph at the box office.

'Rangamma Mangamma' (Rangasthalam)

The phenomenal success of Ram Charan and Sukumar’s period action film ‘Rangasthalam’ is evident to one and all. The film broke all the non-'Baahubali' records both on the home turf and abroad, with critical acclaim especially for Charan’s brilliant performance as a hearing-impaired village man. Though Samantha Akkineni’s role was also highly praised, it was her ‘Rangamma Mangamma’ song that created a sensation in the Telugu land. Composed by Devi Sri Prasad and sung by MM Manasi, the folk number was an instant blockbuster with Samantha’s cute expressions and striking dance moves.

'Dhaari Choodu' (Krishnarjuna Yudham)

Despite the movie ending in a disaster, this massy folk song composed by Hiphop Tamizha and crooned by Penchal Das managed to grab many eyeballs due to its eccentric lyrics and Chittoor dialect. This true blue desi number is the introductory song of Krishna, one of the dual roles played by Natural Star Nani. The typical village backdrop and unorthodox dance moves in ‘Dhaari Choodu’make it a must-watch.

'O Vasumathi' (Bharat Ane Nenu)

This classic duet from Koratala Siva’s ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ was beautifully shot in dazzling sets with a handsome Mahesh Babu and gorgeous Kiara Advani shaking their legs to the soothing tune of Devi Sri Prasad. The lead pair’s eye-popping costumes and sizzling chemistry got the viewers glued to the screens. Apart from 'O Vasumathi', 'Vachaadayyo Saami' is also greatly shot with arresting visuals.

'Lover Also Fighter Also' (Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India)

Stylish Star Allu Arjun’s ‘Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India’ might be an average grosser at the box-office, but his stunning cap tricks and breath-taking steps in 'Lover Also Fighter Also' will not be forgotten anytime soon. Shot by renowned Hollywood cinematographer Joseph Labisi, the crazy number instantly grabbed the attention of the audience with its catchy chorus and groovy tune. Anu Emmanuel looked extremely attractive opposite Allu Arjun in this song.
