Tollywood films that fell flat in 2021

Filmmakers always expect that their films would do well at the box office. But sometimes things turn upside down. In fact, everyone wants the movie to be a hit. But no one can predict that the result of a film. On that note, some of the films released this year have not been well received by the audience. So, here’s a look at the 8 Tollywood films of 2021 that left us disappointed.

Nithiin's 'Check'

The prison thriller drama starring Nithiin, Priya Prakash Varrier and Rakul Preet Singh was released in February 2021 and failed to perform at the box office. Additionally, the movie also had veterans like Sampath Raj, Posani Krishna Murali and Murali Sharma. The weak plot and poor execution were equally responsible for a frustrating watch. 'Check' was directed by Chandra Sekhar Yeleti and produced by Bhavya Creations.

Sharwanand's 'Sreekaram'

Starring Sharwanand and Priyanka Arul Mohan, 'Sreekaram' did not perform enough to get into the hit movies list. Sharwa, in the film, is a software employee who becomes a farmer, on getting challenged by corporate firms. The Kishore B directorial film had a fresh feel, good songs and the set-up too was appealing. However, the film failed to pull crowds to theatres.

Sree Vishnu's 'Gaali Sampath'

Directed by Anish Krishna and screenplay by Anil Ravipudi, the film, which starred Rajendra Prasad, Sree Vishnu and Lovely Singh, turned out to be a dud at the box office. Rajendra Prasad has delivered an amazing performance which couldn’t save this film from underperforming at the box office. 'Gaali Sampath' ultimately turned out to be a major disappointment.

Kartikeya's 'Chaavu Kaburu Challaga'

Actor Kartikeya Gummakonda as a funeral car driver Basthi Balaraju was one of the worst choices ever a director could make. Lavanya Tripathi was definitely a misfit for the role and that was even evident at the box office windows. The audience didn’t appreciate the film due to the lack of content that’s typical for any Tollywood movie. 'Chaavu Kaburu Challaga' was directed by debutant Pegallapati Koushik and produced by GA2 Pictures.

Nithiin's 'Rang De'

A romantic comedy entertainer starring Nithiin and Keerthy Suresh was released in March 2021. The expectations from the film were high due to the pairing of Nithiin and Keerthy. However, but it has failed to impress audiences and fallen flat at the box office. 'Rang De' was directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Sithara Entertainments.

Rana Daggubati's 'Aranya'

Directed by Prabhu Solomon, 'Aranya' had an ensemble cast of Rana Daggubati, Vishnu Vishal, Zoya Hussain, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Ravi Kale, Anant Mahadevan, Sampath Ram, Sheeba Chaddha and Srinath. Despite garnering good reviews, the film was a disaster at the box office. Audiences expected that director Prabhu Solomon, who made Kumki, Mynaa, will repeat the same magic in 'Aranya.'

Akkineni Nagarjuna's 'Wild Dog'

Akkineni Nagarjuna starrer 'Wild Dog' had huge word-of-mouth publicity before its release. But this Ashishor Solomon directorial failed to make an impact at the box office. Lack of a proper script and a shoddy way of filmmaking broke all the expectations, and the film emerged as a box-office dud. Apart from Nag, the film also starred Dia Mirza, Saiyami Kher, Atul Kulkarni and Ali Reza in key roles.

Sudheer Babu's 'Sridevi Soda Center'

Sudheer Babu’s 'Sridevi Soda Center' was an unexpected failure at the box office. Even though the film had a good opening at the box office, the movie failed to carry forward the momentum and vanished from the theatres in the second week. Even though the film had all the ingredients necessary for a commercial entertainer, the film failed to impress the audience.
