Cars and Logos

A brand's logo represents the brand’s identity, values, and history. These symbols often carry with them a much bigger story, it could be the reflection of the legacy of the maker, inspiration or future aspirations. This is especially true in the automotive industry, where the logo serves not only as the visual identifier but also as a powerful representation of a brand's heritage and innovation. While they are not the only criteria, logos can evoke feelings of sophistication and performance, increasing the value of the car in the market. Each logo tells a unique story, capturing the essence of the brand and connecting with consumers on an emotional level. Let us take a look at some of the iconic car logos and the story behind its inception.

Mercedes Benz

The iconic 3-point star Mercedes-Benz logo has been associated with the brand for a long time now. Mercedes Benz was founded by engineer and industrial designer Gottlieb Daimler in 1890, however the reins of the company soon shifted to Wilhelm Maybach and Emil Jellinek. Daimler’ sons remained involved with the company, and to honor their father they took inspiration for the logo from an 1872 postcard from their father, which featured a three-pointed star marking their home’s location. While the current logo is silver in color, it was originally blue. Today the three point star represents the company’s motivation. The three lines represent- land, sea, and air; capturing their aim to dominate transportation in all three.

Tesla’s logo features a white emblem on a red or black background. While people believe that the ‘T’ in the logo stands for Tesla, there is a deeper story to it. As per reports, Elon Musk wanted the logo to resemble the cross-section of the original AC motor which was originally built by Nikola Tesla, the company’s namesake and he famous inventor and electrical engineer. The logo was always meant to honor the legendary inventor. The Tesla Motors logo features two lines, each with distinct meanings. The horizontal line symbolizes a stator section, while the vertical line extends from the motor's rotor, representing the innovative engineering behind Tesla's electric vehicles.

The Porsche logo is a crest that features a rearing horse, the name of the city Stuttgart, and the colors red and black. One one hand, the prancing horse, symbolizes power and speed and on the other hand the red and black stripes on either side are reflective of the traditional crest colors of Württemberg-Hohenzollern.

Bentley

The logo has a distinctive "B" enclosed within a pair of outstretched wings, symbolizing speed, elegance, and freedom. The logo was created by F. Gordon Crosby, a famous motoring artist, for W.O. Bentley, the founder of Bentley Motors, in 1919. To prevent imitation, Crsby gave each wing a different number of wings.
