Amid mass layoffs at Meta Mark Zuckerberg is hiring a 'beach water person' for his luxurious Hawaii ranch
On May 20, Mark Zuckerberg-owned Meta announced a new round of global cuts with about 10% of its workforce being affected in the first major wave. At the same time, the company said that around 7,000 employees would be moved to new AI-focused initiatives. However, while he might be laying off thousands and affecting even more families with an uncertain future, Zuckerberg is allegedly hiring for his own massive ranch in Kauai, Hawaii. The role is apparently that of a "beach water person" and entails tasks ranging from offering lifeguard services to assisting Zuckerberg and Co. in ocean sports activities. This unusual job opening was first spotted by WIRED through a listing on Greenhouse linked to West 10, the Zuckerberg family office. As per a report, Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan are said to be looking for a seasonal, on-call worker for their sprawling Kauai compound. While the title "beach water person" sounds vague, the role is essentially centred around water safety. It would involve a person working as both a beach and pool lifeguard. They would also work as a boat deckhand and help guests with stand-up paddleboarding, canoe paddling, snorkelling and other ocean-based activities.
In short, the role sounds like a mix of private lifeguard, surf instructor and yacht assistant rolled into one possibly high-paying job.Initially, the listing grabbed attention online and has since reportedly disappeared from the Greenhouse careers page. The hiring also lines up with Zuckerberg's growing obsession with ocean sports and luxury sea life. Over the last few years, the Meta giant has been frequently spotted surfing, hydrofoiling and wake surfing. In a Bloomberg interview for 'The Circuit w/ Emily Chang' he even turned part of the conversation into a wake-surfing lesson at his Lake Tahoe home, explaining how balancing on a wake wave differed from traditional surfing.Zuckerberg's lifestyle now centres around his expansive Kauai property in Hawaii. The ranch has attracted headlines over the years due to reports claiming it has a massive underground bunker, private compounds and extensive security systems. It is believed to span hundreds of acres and reportedly includes luxury guest houses, farming operations and cattle ranching. What has the world in splits, is that the news of the hiring comes as Meta has been laying off employees in numerous rounds. On May 20, teams in Singapore reportedly received termination emails as early as 4 am on May 20.
