‘I want to go back, they don’t accept us here’: Heartbreaking confession of Indian man working in the US goes viral
Many people across the world spend their lives chasing the American dream. But it's not necessarily all sunshine and rainbows, or marvellous skyscrapers. For some, it could mean surviving in a place where they never truly feel accepted. A video of an Indian DoorDash delivery person working in the United States has taken the internet by storm. The clip filmed by an American man during the delivery has unveiled a heartbreaking story of the Indian man struggling to survive in the US. The man expresses his deepest sorrow over the lack of acceptance he experiences in America.
“I want to go back, sir. They don’t accept us here,” the man says in an emotional exchange. “You are nice, you are talking, but they don’t like to talk to immigrants. I am going to be a citizen, but my heart is sad,” the man says. “Just pray for us,” he adds.
The Indian man expresses how he feels torn between wanting to return to his homeland and staying in the US for the sake of his family. “I have two daughters, my daughters are not going back. I am stuck. I want to leave the USA forever because if you are not happy somewhere and people are not accepting… But unfortunately, my daughters say they want to stay here. And my wife also doesn’t want to leave,” he shares.
About 4.9 million people in the US identify as Indian alone or in combination with other races, ethnicities, or Asian origins, according to Center analysis of the 2021-23 ACS. Since 2000, the Indian population has grown by roughly 3.1 million from 1.8 million, which is a 174% increase in roughly two decades.
The video has gone viral on the internet and is flooded with comments. It has triggered discussions about the Indian diaspora in the US.
“He was so hurt. I could feel the pain,” an Instagram user commented. “Come back... Hatred for Indians is at an all-time high. Be safe, my brothers and sisters,” another wrote.
“Most Indians who come to the USA are hard-working and stay in their own lane. They work hard, take some of the worst jobs, and rarely complain about it. Most of them are like this man, too, it’s not always a black and white situation for them,” one said.
“This hits hard. It’s heartbreaking to hear someone feel so unwelcome in a place they’ve tried to call home. The Indian man’s struggle, feeling caught between a country that doesn’t fully embrace him and a family reluctant to leave, speaks to a deeper truth about belonging and identity. No one should feel forced to choose between their heart and their home. Maybe it’s not just about “going back” but about finding a place where you’re truly valued for who you are. Wishing him strength and a path forward that feels right,” another said.
