Ravi Shastri tries Formula 1 in Monaco, delivers commentary gold at 250 kmph
Ravi Shastri may have stepped away from coaching years ago, but one thing clearly hasn't changed - give the man a microphone, or even no microphone at all, and he'll still find a way to turn any moment into commentary gold.
The former India coach and veteran broadcaster recently found himself in a very different sporting arena: Formula 1's iconic Monaco Grand Prix. And what followed has left the internet thoroughly entertained.
Ahead of the race weekend, Shastri hopped into the passenger seat of a high-performance car for a hot lap around the legendary Monaco street circuit. Behind the wheel was five-time Formula Drift champion James Deane. Most people would probably spend the ride gripping the seat and questioning their life choices. Shastri, on the other hand, decided it was the perfect opportunity to commentate.
As the car tore through Monaco's famously tight corners at speeds touching 250 kmph, Shastri appeared far more fascinated than frightened.
"It's like a tracer bullet down the narrow lanes of Monaco," he exclaimed, sounding exactly like he does when a batter sends a cricket ball racing to the boundary.
And he wasn't done.
Calling Monaco one of the greatest circuits in the world, Shastri described the experience as "marbles-in-your-mouth stuff", before adding with perfect comic timing that the feeling wasn't just in his mouth, but "every other part too."
Within hours, the clip was everywhere.
Cricket fans, Formula 1 followers and meme-makers united for what felt like the most Ravi Shastri moment imaginable. Social media users couldn't get enough of the fact that even while being flung around one of the fastest tracks in motorsport, Shastri still managed to sound like he was calling a World Cup final.
Many fans immediately latched onto his trademark phrase "tracer bullet", a line cricket lovers have heard countless times over the years whenever a batter smashes a particularly fierce boundary.
One user joked that a Ravi Shastri video without "tracer bullet" simply wouldn't feel complete. Another summed it up perfectly: "Commentary on the track too."
The viral clip has now sparked an entirely new demand online - Ravi Shastri in the Formula 1 commentary box.
And honestly, plenty of fans seem convinced it would work.
His booming voice, larger-than-life reactions and ability to make almost anything sound dramatic have long made him one of the most recognisable voices in Indian sport. Watching him bring that same energy to Formula 1 has left many wondering why the crossover hasn't happened already.
Some fans even joked that if Formula 1 ever returns to India, Shastri deserves a front-row seat in the commentary booth.
What makes the video so entertaining isn't just the speed or the setting. It's the fact that Shastri looked like he was having the time of his life. While most people would be struggling to process the G-forces, he was busy delivering one-liners.
The result? A motorsport video that somehow felt like a cricket broadcast.
And if the internet's reaction is anything to go by, Ravi Shastri has once again proved a simple truth: you can take him out of the commentary box, but good luck taking the commentator out of Ravi Shastri.
