The anti-Indian rhetoric has spread far and wide in the world. From America to Vietnam, citizens of numerous countries have shown blatant racism and discrimination towards Indians.
While some claim the reason to be an alleged Indian takeover of the world, others function purely on prejudice. In a video going viral on the internet, an Indian tourist shared how an employee at a Vietnamese grocery store behaved with him.
"Vietnam mai na itna racism hai, maine isko saman diya isne merko nahi becha aur mere samne white logo ko becha hai," said the man in the video.
In the clip, the employee continued to carry on with his work while the Indian man asked him to call his manager or boss, threatening to call the police if he didn't. The man said that he would address the incident this time and not leave, while normally people just let go of similar incidents in countries outside.
"Ab waqt aagaya hai isko bas karne ka, let's call the police or the boss. I have a video," said the man while the employee asked him to leave the store.
As the man continued, the employee served some other locals while ignoring him and laughing at him. "You are laughing right now, but you will cry later, because you are a racist" said the man.
"Isne na chaar logon ke saamne mujhe saman Dene se mana kiya, aur un sabki billing karke di. Isne mujhe esa feel karaya jaise mai kisi sadak se uthke aya hu, mere paas paise nahi hai."
Later in the clip, the man shared that they cleared the misunderstanding with the help of a translator, with the employee allowing him to buy the groceries and him letting him know that he felt disrespected by his behaviour. He advised people to take a stand and call out discrimination and racism.
"Humne hath milaya, smile di aur end. Kayi baar aap usse wahin ki wahin khatam karke aage badh sakte ho aur woh apne aap mai ek misaal paida kar sakte ho taki woh age se kisi aur ke saath na kare," he added.
Social media reactions
The Indian man's video received mixed reactions online. While some supported him, others marked it as a one-time incident, claiming Vietnamese citizens are kind otherwise.
"He seems to be inside Winmart, a well-known retail chain. The prices are all written on the shelves and any mall would have. The staff are employees only and won't push or bargain for sales. In my experience, they are very nice and never make a mess unless you start it," wrote one.
"The same thing happened with me in Ho chi Minh City on 13th May 2026. I was at Ben market, in one of the shop I just asked the price of product, girl standing there says to me" don't buy go from here". I feel humiliating. I will suggest Indians near to visit Vietnam," shared another.
"In some touristy parts of Vietnam, locals stereotype Indian tourists as heavy bargainers, noisy groups, or low spenders. Meanwhile, white tourists are often assumed to spend more and cause less trouble, so they get treated better from the start. Unfortunate but the actions of one of us affects all of us," added a user.
"I think one of a incident.. otherwise i went there they behave nicely no issue ir feeling like that …" another claimed.
